Started making magnets on a Haas SL-20, then on Doosan 2100, then on Doosan 2100 SLY dual Spindle. The increase in profit went through the roof.

And here i am still rocking a Mori SL150 from '97. Found the channel from your old setup videos actually. A good mill turn is on the list for this year though.

I'm a big fan of my old mori. The first crash I'd ever had was one that machine in the setup video. The SL200. Thanks for watching my videos

@aaronrunk4209 I learned on this one and it's certainly held up to a couple greenhorn bumps. I appreciate your vids though, there's very little content out there on the old moris and even a lot of old fanucs so they really helped me get a step ahead! Keep it up!

I can't see how the make of the lathe have anything to do with the machining?? both programs and both machines waste time.

Yes, all of the programs are not optimal in producing a mass production of these parts. Our goal in educating the students isn't to produce the parts as fast as possible because that would mean purchasing 10's of thousands of dollars in material through taxpayer dollars. I want to be a good steward of their hard earn money, so the goal of this project is to show students using only the machines on our floor the difference a machine can make in efficiency. need to hone your programming skills, sir also the first video is rod held in collet right next to clamping, the second video shows same part but rod held in jaws and pulled out about 2 inches - that's probably why the vibration occurs

I appreciate your comment. However, the purpose of the video is to help students understand the operations of Machining and how more advanced machines do cost more but they are worth the money if the job is right. They are only learning the basic fundamentals in a short amount of time. Ideally, I would be running parts on a Swiss and only use 3 tools. This way, I could produce a part every 15 seconds. If I were to do that, it would cost taxpayers' 10's of thousands of dollars in material, and I'm going to be a good steward of their hard earned dollars. The goal is for students to set up the machine without crashing it, and they do well. Thanks for watching

You bet, thanks for posting, it’s nice to have lots of footage of machines to co pare/see any diferences. It does not have to be the craziest sexiest machines perfectly programmed. My goal is to try and see jist 30seconds of a new idea or something I have not seen before as machining is constantly evolving. 20 years of machining ad I still learn new things weekly.

@brianwaayenberg3099 Yes, it's fun to watch videos of parts being machined because it seems like every day, there's someone out there doing something amazing. I've been machining for a long time as well, and it wasn't until recently that I learned about the rubber band trick for boring vibrations. Crazy!

Yes, it is different programs. However, when I teach my students how to open up their own business depending on how much money they want to spend to make their lives a lot easier. The first part did not have a parts catcher, and the parts had to be removed by hand, and then there was a bar pull at the end of the program. The second run has a parts catcher. However, the parts still have to go to a mill to face off the tops. The last machine because it has two spindles and a parts catcher, even with the cycle time being longer the machine never stops in between cycles and does not have to go to another machine for another operation therefore in theory if I had a bar loader the machine would never stop running. So it depends on whether or not I want to run my parts on a $50,000 lathe, $120,000 lathe, or a $200,000 lathe. This is where I measure the increase in production because of the deduction of downtime and operations ran on the part. Thank you for watching

Doosan is way rigid than HASS and before anyone brands me HAAS hater, I own one... 2 actually a MM2 and a SL10 big bore, they are good machines for their price because they are comparatively cheap not because they are rigid, that said you can still do work even hard milling or hard tuning on HAAS, you just need to adjust cutting parameters to adapt to the machine

@user-gt3xz6wo3o they way I explain it to my students is it all depends on the cost, size, and quantity of what your going to produce on it. Nowadays both machines are in close competition with each other so the last factor is "service reliability". I've had good experiences with both this far. Because I'm at a school. I'd have to go with Haas due to budget limitations, but I'm just glad I have both in the shop now. Thanks for watching

For these programs, we used feature cam. There is nothing fancy on the programming, just trying to show students ways of producing parts on the machines. We do go over ways of improving the process, but overall, it's a good start for those with no experience to learn on. @@aaronrunk4209 interesting. I haven't heard of feature cam before. I checked it out and does look much easier than the fusion 360 that I am learning on. My 14 year old son is just started on fusion 360. Is this an Autodesk product? thanks for the post.

@user-ym1km4rj2l Yes, Feature Cam has been around for a long time, and it is an autodesk application just like Catia-V5 and solidworks are Dassault Systems products. It has its pros and cons like any software, but I've used it for all my 3 axis work. For 5 axis work, I like to use Catia-V5 even though most 5axis work is just 3axis while rotating to different angles while Machining. We teach Catia-V5, Feature Cam, Solidworks, Esprit, Fusion 360, and several verify software and simulator for checking posted code. There's a lot out there, so we just try to cover some.
