Check out this demo showcasing some of the UMC-1500-DUO's abilities. We made the demo for our 1st Demo Day Live event this year and then showed the video during our recent HaasTec week of live streams.
Note: In case you notice the coolant stream seems pretty light in some places, yes we planned it that way to have the cut more visible where possible.
The Haas UMC-1500-DUO is like having two machines in one: a powerful 5-axis universal machining center, and a versatile 3-axis vertical machining center. We took our industry-leading UMC-750, expanded its X-axis travel, and added a stationary 32" x 18" T-slot table next to the dual-axis trunnion.
Set up 1st Op workholding on the t-slot table or use it to machine the 6th side of your completed 5-axis parts. Or, because the stationary table and trunnion platter are at the same height, fixture parts across both, and use the machine’s full X-axis travel to machine long parts.

Amazing machine, you can prep the stock in a vice, mill it on the rotary and finish in soft jaws on the table, all in one setup

I'd prefer to see a demonstration showing a large workpiece (one that justifies the large rotary platter) which then moves off to the stationary table for finishing, either before or after the multiaxis operation. Making different workpieces inside the same machine could be done on many other types of Haas verticals, but showing a large item that takes full advantage would be fairly beneficial.

Lots of smaller shops would use this so they can do all their ops for one part in one machine.. You could prep rough stock, do the 5 axis work, then the second op, in one machine. Also some smaller shops want a 5 axis machine but may not use it constantly to justify having its own machine, so you could run this like a VF2 most of the time but still have the 5 axis capabilities when that job rolls around.

Ya when I first saw this machine I didn't get it, I still don't. Spindles are what make you money, yes this machine might take up less space and be a bit less then 2 machines but it can only do half the work.
@85CEKR
@85CEKR 4 жыл бұрын
@IX eleven i actually looked it up on their website, its cheaper to buy a umc750 and a vf2 than one of these... its worse than I thought. If it cost 10-20% more from a business point of view you'd be silly to buy this but its actually less this machine makes no sense.
@85CEKR
@85CEKR 4 жыл бұрын
@IX eleven the VF 2 and this machines stationary table are the same size, so no a VF2 would be comparable not a VF5. There really is no point to this machine. I'm sure if you looked hard enough you could find one very specific job that might make some sense on this machine but unless that job alone is gonna pay for the job 10 fold you'd be better with the two machines... and if thats the case buy something else way better... or 2 umc750's and 2 vf5's.

Nice machine, good job. Please come up with solutions to the paint problem. I have bought a new machine, but after half a year of work the paint inside it began to flake off. It is a new machine, but it already looks terrible. There is a VCE750 produced in 1998, the paint there is very durable and the machine looks fresh even today.

Our new vf4ss is only about 3 months old and I have paint flaking in numerous locations. It looks like the steel wasn’t prepped properly before the powder coat or paint. If it makes you feel any better though, our 2 year old dmg mori is just as bad

@Haas Automation, Inc. Hello, Could you please share radial engagement, feeds/speeds on the adaptive at 1:31 and end mill info (1/2"?), radial engagement, feeds/speed/ramp angle on the circular interpolation at 2:50 . Do you change the feed or radial engagement after the interpolation is done and starts the adaptive clearing, or does it stay constant? Feeds/speeds on the chamfering at 5:12 would also be appreciated. I also have a question regarding HSM adaptive clearing on aluminum, how do you determine the feed rate if you are using most of the flute length and about 10% of the cutter diameter for your radial depth of cut? I know most of the info maybe basic/common to most, but my professor didn't cover it in class. He told us to stick to tool mfg recommended feeds/speeds, he didn't mention that those numbers are only starting points. Thank you

At 1:30 it's not what I learned from an old expert, the rotation shall not follow the material. E.g. The outside profile shall be milled counter clockwise and the inner profile clock wise. That make less vibrations, smother surface and less risk that the tool hug and break.
@Beldoras
@Beldoras 3 жыл бұрын
You are talking of old style milling (conventional milling) which was for older machines that had backlash, these modern cnc machines are much better than the old ones and climb milling is now universal and provides better surface finish and longer tool life

Is this a video to show us Why we should buy a DUO ???? Or it's a video Why NOT to buy a DUO ???? Still 2 machines with 1 Spindle ?? If you purchased this machine in reverse engineering ? 1 VF2 and 1 UMC 750. Would this be a better or worse way to buy a machine ? I would prefer one HAAS machine broken down hoping the other one is still running. Not 1 machine that is 2 machines broken down. I don't need to explain the benefits of buy 2 separate Spindles ?

HahahaHaas Maschinen.

@saschavollmar4692
