I just made my own wash away stabilizer, search on youtube diy bio plastic, its a gelatin and glycerin recipe and its easy, worked perfectly, rinsed out in less than 30 seconds, i also use paper towel as a stabilizer i separate it down to 1 or 2 ply then throw it in the wash afterwards, the cheaper the towel the easier it is to wash off ive noticed, i hope everyone can save some money using these tricks, stabilizing materials are too expensive and too much waste, hope this will help someone xx Nadine

Hi, do you soak the fabric in it, wait for it to dry, then start embroidering/sewing? Or a different method. Would you feel up to writing or posting a tutorial, nadine? Please and thank you~

@@ninqistratton3418 i did not soak the fabric at all, i made the bio plastic then poured the bio liquid plastic solution thinly into my biggest shallow flat bottom containers, then waited overnight for them to evaporate/solidify then peeled the bio plastic out off the container and stored it in between paper and used those bio plastic sheets instead of store wash away stabilizer, i wouldn't be surprised if the store stuff is made from the same or very similar, i have sold my embroidery Machine but the tutorials i found for the bio plastic were all found here on KZbin, from memory it was a glycerin, gelatin solution, very easy to put together :)

that..... could work for me! i ordered some threads from amazon (smithreads 63 brother colors) and it came with this fold of fabric that looks like some kind of heavy duty stabilizer (free sample?) or it could simply have been to protect the threads, i dunno, either way, I think I can use it as a hold and then I can just masking tape my stabilizers. I don't use sticky stabilizer as it gunks up the needles and causes thread to pile up on the upper end, so no worries about using non-stick for me. I'll let you know how this works out.

I found Lisa Capin's tip early on when I started to do machine embroidery, and it works great. I have also used olyfun and tearaway this way. The more places we can find resources and tips, the better off we are, so it is good to see this noted here, as well. Also saw a tip for sewing those side strips of tearaway together somewhere, and that works, too, depending on what one is making and where those joins occur. The stretch zigzag stitch was recommended, and it does work better than the regular zigzag stitch for that. Love your videos. Have made your flat mask with eyelets and the zigzag finish. I need to purchase the new flat front mask you have come up with since then! I've seen several variants of this for the sewing machine, but this is the first one I believe I've seen for the embroidery machine. Thanks for your contributions to the mask making campaign; I make lots of different types so that it doesn't get boring!

We used this method for over 2000 masks. I sew out on heavy wt. tear-away then gently remove that first mask leaving as much of the backer in place. I then cover the whole frame to the tear-out edges with clear packing tape, which keeps the base firm and lets you tape down the smaller tear-aways w/o ripping the base. Also works for many other repetitive projects (like stocking cuffs).

But isn't it suppose to be drum tight? Seems that's not possible this way.

when sewing the design like the masks, layering the stabilizer will work fine since it is not a high density embroidery design.

I’ve been using butcher paper for the stabilizer on the masks and it works really well as a tear away and is so inexpensive

Doesnt it dull your needle? Also what sewing machine brand/type do you use? Do you slow the speed down?
@christinereed18374 жыл бұрын
Tanya99503 my machine is a Janome MC9900. I’ve had no problems with the needle. The butcher paper is very light weight.

Lisa Capin Quilts here on KZbin calls this a "stabilizer window"and uses a school glue stick to hold the new piece in place for even more savings.
