After watching this I was a little skeptical but tried it on a 7 year old Phillips electric which I hadn't used in a couple of years. I did the steps twice. And safe to say I'm impressed, no snagging or pulling. Just a really close clean cut. Thanks for the information 👍

Amazing! This actually worked. My Norelco is probably 10 or 15 years old and it's so dull now such that it occasionally pulls at the hair above my upper lip and it hurts. It also takes me a long time to shave because of having to go over it again and again until it cuts the hair.Thanks much!

I'll be darned! I'll give this a try as soon as my latest replacement blade set on my Norelco rotary shaver shows signs of 'dulling' I'll report back. 8/24/21: I tried this and WOW! It worked. I just shaved after doing this procedure yesterday and it IS just like putting a new set of heads in my shaver. DO THIS and save! 11/8/21: Just resharpened my shaver - AGAIN! This procedure is amazing. Again Robert - Thank You.

Of all the videos I watched on YT, about sharpening blades on rotary machines, this one is the most consistent for keeping the blades in good condition. Other videos talk about sharpening blades with a flat grinder and glass finish, but it is not suitable for curved profile blades. Thank you for documenting this.😀

I have an old Norelco 8240XL and they don't make the replacement HQ9 blades anymore. There are a few available but they cost as much as a new razor. Saw a number of other hacks for sharpening the blades and they required power drills or sandpaper, and then I saw your simple but brilliant solution. As a retired engineer, I salute you.

Still got my 8240xl, just replaced the original blade. You are right about costing as much as a new razor. With this trick, I will be probably never have to replace them. Btw, best shaver I ever used.
@baklash1762 Жыл бұрын
I also have an old 8240XL that I’ve had for many many years and used to sharpen via the whetstone method. Yep, Norelco no longer makes the HQ9 head. There are a gazillion on Amazon, but are all Chinese and mostly junk and a waste of money. Your method is novel, easy, and inexpensive. I will certainly try it out. Right now I have the blades and foils soaking in alcohol to degrease.

Great video. I tried it and saved my self $$ on buying new one. I have a Remington rotary shaver that was dull. Seemed to fix it, I can hear it cutting hairs now. I also tried it on a $14 budget rotary razor, that has blades that stick straight up against mesh, they are sharp, have cut my self few times cleaning head. Tried it on it and seems to sharpen that too. Got that one from Giant Tiger.

My partner was given his first electric razor when his dad passed away. My partner tried it and said it was useless and pulled on his hairs. Because I'm a huge fan of reusing and DIY hacks, I thought I'd try this. First, when I popped open the cover it looked like nobody had ever cleaned it (thanks for showing me how to open it). Then I followed your instructions. I actually gave it two toothpaste treatments because when I cleaned out the toothpaste (after the soap) even more hairs and gunk came out. I cant wait for my partner to get home and give his dad's electric razor another try...!

I have a 10 year old Philips Sense 3D RQ1250 shaver do I use these steps with the cutting wheels still in the unit please? And can this be done on the side trimmer that is attached for that blade or doesn’t that work in the same method?

I looked up your Philips Sense 3D RQ1250 shaver . Yes, use this same technique for the rotary blades. It will not improve sharpness of the trimmer.

I have an old 8240XL. Just checked the manual and it says one drop of mineral oil in the center of each foil every 6 months. But I’ve never oiled it.
@johnblack98853 жыл бұрын
You don’t need toothpaste just take off the blade guards and run the razor underneath a piece if ceramic tile and it will sharoen the blades
@jeffgrave3 жыл бұрын
That is the not the case for over 90% of blades out there. The blade is a dual tapered design, the toothpaste allows the slightly curved edges to be honed against the mating back screen. If you run it on a flat surface, you will just further dull the blades.
