Cool tree Jerome! I use the cut paste that I got from The Bonsai Supply so I'm voting for that cut to heal first! Nice work!

hi.great tree bro,waiting to see the results of it in the future. im using potting soil,lava rock and perlite in the most of my trees :) have a great weekend!

Even if the cuts are the same size and on the same tree the orange one will heal faster because it’s on the top part of the tree with the apex (top branch) pushing more than the one on the side therefor it will close the cut faster. But Consider that the other cut paste on the left can be removed after a bit (or it will fall off) allowing you to scar a bit the edges of the wounds, this will stimulate the cells of the healing wound to close the cut faster. In my opinion what makes the cut close is if the tree is pushing strong therefore fertiliser sun and good care can work better than any paste
@WeareTheBonsaiSupply3 жыл бұрын
Speed is one factor to consider, but the other is how nice it is healing. Both areas are pretty equally vigorous before I started this project. Both sides had a leader of equal height, thickness, etc. What makes a cut heal is cut paste, followed by a leader being allowed to grow on the top part of the cut until they are completely healed and closed off. It would be best if you had cut paste to prevent the area from drying out and from an insect infestation from moving in.

So your last few videos the trees you are working on are amazing materials, where are you sourcing this really nice rough material? World love to get ahold of some similar materials to develop. Great demo thanks for sharing.

The Orange paste is really good for Azaleas because of the thin bark. I like the putty for everythi g else. I think the putty will work best on the large cuts on the Hackberry. I really enjoy your videos

Hey Jane, Thank you for your nice feedback! I think both cut pastes have their pros and cons, and I think whichever is available to you will work just fine.

How do you get these to ramify? I find every time i prune I get loads of dieback on the fine branches?
@WeareTheBonsaiSupply2 жыл бұрын
Hi, I don't experience the same after pruning. Is your tree in a windy area? That would explain the dieback after pruning because wind evaporates the moisture in small branches and causes them too dieback.
@somersetreefer11682 жыл бұрын
@@WeareTheBonsaiSupply not particularly. I'm in South West of UK. Perhaps I'm pruning too early trying to get the very fine growth at the tips to ramify. I will definitely shelter next summer to see how it goes 👍🏻

Great video, I've been getting more interested in hackberry as bonsai . You might have said and I missed it, but is this a American hackberry? I've been trying to find a Chinese hackberry or possibly an American hackberry but they seem to be very hard to find. Also I was wondering what brand of saw you were using or what brand makes a good fine toothed saw you like. I've been trying to find a good small saw for doing finer detail cuts. Thanks for sharing what you do with us. :)

Awesome base but the smooth curves on the inside that U shaped branch junction are a bit of an eyesore. Maybe you can break that up with some secondary branching off of those segments.
@WeareTheBonsaiSupply3 жыл бұрын
Hey Mark, I agree with you. This is why I pushed one branch further to the back to create depth. Maybe it will be moved even further to the back with the next repot. I think once the branches come in you won't be able to notice it as much.

Ah Hah. My American Hackberry with the bad roots I Mentioned before: I scored a ring above the existing roots, applied rooting hormone and sphagnum moss, and repotted deeper. I'm in southern PA, and we have just hopefully passed from the point when nights get below freezing.

Hey David, What you did is called a ground layer, it is pretty much the same as an air layer but on the ground. It is a very good technique and you tried it on a great responsive specie. Please share updates as it progresses.
