These often have stereo cartridges driving a mono amp but there is a switched output socket to drive a matching separate amp and speaker cabinet allowing the option of full stereo if you could afford to buy the extra unit.

Hello Rob. Those extra units for all record players are very rare as you say not many people could afford them.

Thank goodness, thought for a moment you were going to turn a nice old Hacker into a guitar amp ( phew!) 😂 Nice repair job. 👍

According to what I could find online, that model was produced from 1966 through 1969, although the date code on the output transformer on the one in your video appears to be 1962, which I guess is possible.

Hello Michael. Yes I should have mentioned that in the video. Once again I missed the date on the transformer. Well spotted. Thanks for watching and take care.

Have you become the British equivalent of "Radio & T.V. Phone Nut" ? Just practice your USA southern drawl, create a chaotic workbench and start constantly complaining about rap music and it'd be a goodun.. Seriously.. That Hacker is a top notch record player of it's day. Well worth the restoration of the amp and hearing how effective it is. Very interesting stuff Martyn especially that 70's album cover art 😅😅

Hello Pete. I had not seen that channel before. Just looked it up. Will have a look. I don't think I will manage the Southern drawl though. The Hacker was good quality, apart from the caps. But then again they were over fifty years old. The record deck was very modern for the 60s. It was a fun project.

I watched you repairing this cavalier,i was quite shocked. The idea is to repair them using correct parts,resistors caps etc,not replacing the EZ80 rectifier with silicon diodes.I have repaired and refurbished several Hackers,did you replace R11 and R12 820k resistors,quite common for these resistors to go hi with others in this circuit.
@vintageguitaramp_guitarteacher Жыл бұрын
Hello. I am sorry that changing the EZ80 upset you but the customer decided on this one. I can see both sides to this one. I changed all the resistors, and all the caps. Everything was done for in this record player. Thanks for watching and take care.

Hi thanks for the reply,i understand that the customer is alway right sometimes.I have 7 of these excellent record players,i have refurbished each one to be original,this is the aim to keep original.Regards Bob.

The transformers all run hot in these hackers but you maybe tamed it a bit with diodes Great Could have plugged guitar in aux input with extra long pin rca plug or a pedal😊at back plate Love these amps.not so much the r.p. side of things Extension speaker is a revelation Cheers Martyn

In later models hacker changed the coupling caps to mullard mustard caps..ECL86 valves have got very expensive.
@vintageguitaramp_guitarteacher Жыл бұрын
Hello Rob. Would have been much better with the Mullard caps. The ECL86 is an expensive tube and getting harder to find new old stock. It's a shame they don't make them anymore. the gain factor on the triode is same as a 12AX7. They are great for low wattage guitar amps. Thanks for watching and take care.

Can you help me with my hacker, the bass has seemed to have dropped do you know what it could be ?
@vintageguitaramp_guitarteacher4 ай бұрын
Hello Ashley. It could be the bypass caps on the cathodes of the pre amp tubes, and the there is also one for the output tubes. Let me know how you get on with it. Take care.
