Hacking a Receipt Printer

In this video I make a short stop motion animation using a custom program which splits a video up into frames and prints each frame out.

Hey Owen, great video. I'm an engineering student in Canada working on my Capstone (final year design) project! We're designing an automated radioactive aerosol detection system for uranium byproducts, and these readings are taken by using a filter paper, which can be bought on rolls similar to the thermal paper you use in this video. I was happy to watch this video because it made me realize my idea of basically putting our spool into one of these and printing nothing would move the filter rolls through the systems for new readings without us needing to design a whole motor system from scratch! If you'd be interested I'd love to know more about the printer you used and your design challenges for this project! Cheers, Tristan

Hei man! Thanks for sharing this video. I just bought this small pocket thermal printer - PeriPage a6. It has 203dpi resolution which I like (it comes in better quality 300dpi version but I have printer for that). The only down side is that I have to use their app on my phone to print. This kinda add one extra step (with few more taps) to get the print and I'm wondering if it could be hacked like you did with this machine. Let me know if you have an idea of how it could be done.
