10:15 - that's exactly right and I was going to explain about the road loop (you can see the black lines which are buried cables at 09:30) but then you explained it. There is a road loop under the barrier which has two functions - firstly as a safety device so the barrier doesn't come down on a car, secondly to validate the dispensed ticket. But it's not foolproof as you've found out! Would be interesting to get a ticket, then present it the next day (see the amount), a day later (see the amount), see how long you can keep going back until you've got a ticket with £100 or more!? Liked the experiments from different car parks, but even if the technology was the same each site would have it's own unique site code. By the way, a road loop is a couple of cables buried in a groove - it's attached to a controller which gives it a magnetic field. An object driving over the wires changes the field which is picked up by the controller. Quite a simple device but requires something solid enough to activate it, a push bike should just be enough. You see videos with barriers coming down on people, people cannot activate road loops (unless their shoes have metal plates!)

Bit old but I have a ticket owing $240 in parking yes you need to go under the barrier specific to the Skidata system some places have ANPR aswell

The ticket issuing machine takes tickets so that holders of long term tickets can be issued with plastic cards that the insert at entry and exit instead of having to collect and validate a ticket. If a car driver's ticket did not work in the machines there should be a help button for them to press and have the error corrected (the attendant may look at CCTV footage of the car entering to verify this so it would not be advisable to do so if you were playing with the system).

Interessting test, I guess the ticket machine expects people to park for at least a certain amount of time to in order to charge a minimum parking fee. Many carparks in the netherlands also have really weird time units, instead of paying per minute (which would be consumer friendly) they charge you for a hour or some really weird time like 55 minutes even if you parked 15 minutes. These minimum time units are also completely abratrairy, on some carparks it's 56 minutes or any time duration just under an hour so that when you actually park for one whole hour, you have to pay for two! They'll rip off if you don't park exactly the same time as their weird amount of time. You often end up paying more. Paying per minute or per 5 minutes would be much more fair to the consumer.

just bring a bike or some huge magnet to trick the induction loop into giving you cheaper or free parking, some places offer free parking if you only been there for a certain amount of time anywhere up to 30 minutes.
