On today's video, we've cut out the entire nose of the FLOODED 1965 Corvair in an attempt to de-rust and de-butcher the previous work. It's almost finished with just a few little pieces to wrap up. Plus, we hit a TOP SECRET Corvair-only yard for some body panels.

Thank you very much! I'll probably do that, just finish the rust repair and then get on to things I like doing (like fabrication/restoration/anything but bodywork)

It was a treat to watch great craftsmanship in progress. Excellent job. Thanks for sharing. Isn't it often the case, seemingly small projects can quickly balloon into time consuming ordeals.

Nice work! I hope I never have to go into one that far. Finished product looks great. When you were aligning the buckets I said out loud, "You need to shut that hood to line it up." and right then, you did. Sorry you weren't able to use the piece from me. Looking forward to more vids of rust. I'd suggest you go ahead and deal with the rust now, then you'll be done. Get it sealed, then primed at a minimum. Drive it a while more and enjoy it before you dig into the suspension.

Thanks Barry! It's way more work than I was hoping for, but ultimately it'll be rewarding to know the front is solid again. I'm thinking about just knocking out the wheel wells and being DONE with rust for a long time. Thanks again for letting me come out and play at your place, and I definitely need to come visit again when I get back from vacation. Sean

I also want to say, you may not like all the work but what you are doing is preserving some serious historical Americana. And your doing it the right way. I don't know how important it is but it's certainly awesome and cool. Someday if the car is taken care of someone will look at it and see where America was at in 1965 or whatever. Super great thing man.

I think some could be saved, but most are a bit too far gone. I really would love a Corvair wagon, van, or truck but those are VERY expensive right now.

I believe all the late models are from the same mold on the passenger side front. My 65 had the same issue. Finally have my restoration complete but as all new restorations the gremlins are now showing themselves. I feel your pain, I do this work for a living...

Thanks for sharing this. It is hard to taken projects of this magnitude when you have a driving car. That is the reason I have not started a couple of projects on my stang. I like driving it too much.

I hear you...when the car doesn't run, it's no biggie to take it a bit further apart. But this one runs REALLY well. I keep trying to think of it as putting money in the bank for future benefit. Someday it'll pay off.

Sean, You are doing get job! Back in my garage car painting days, we had door with 1/2 of bond on it. I was told door got hit by motorcycle, but it wasn't even pulled out any. You always put your best work at all your challenges..

Fisher Body, a division of GM wasn't know for workmanship. My 65 leaves a lot to be desired with the hood and related parts of the front.

I remember watching some of your earlier vids where you were suturing up the headliner and I was like "what the F are you doing? Do it right!" And here you are, doing it right! Nice job, keep it up!

Thanks! The headliner was always meant to be a temp fix, I just didn’t want to have it hanging down in my face. The car has come so much further than I ever expected, and I’m loving every minute!

@@AutoAnatomy I'm resurrecting a '66 110 PG coupe myself. Replaced carbs, pushrod seals and oil pan gaskets to get it running right, then had the alternator seize (towed home), fixed that, drove it 500 miles to a car show without incident and upon my return took the wife for ice cream and the fan bearing seized! Getting to know the tow truck drivers on a first name basis, but there's something about this car that keeps me going!

I have three late model Corvairs. Every one of them was hit in the left front corner, and every one has Bondo in the front panel. One of these cars is very original, and the factory panel fit is not spectacular... You are doing very nice work there...

I'd love to find a few Corvairs at a scrap yard. Would probably come home with a LOT of parts! I REALLY want to get a set of 140 heads for the car, probably sooner rather than later.

Sean, an update on the '69 Corvair model. I've found the color that I want to paint this car. It's not stock for this style, it's for convertibles. Fantom green. Dark green. The interior will be fawn. Total not stock.

i allways made sure the body panels were straight and cut off a front and marry it up not start at one side ,that could cause issues ,ive tried it corner to corner and never worked for me ,if i cut the full front off another car and marked it on every cut and welded it was good

Ok, so your awesome! Let's just get that out of the way. As far as why the nose of the car had filler bondo. I dented my early model with a power glide because I left it in drive and it hit my truck. Now, those little shift levers have a window that gets cloudy and it is hard to see what gear it's in. On top of that the light in there is kind of dim. On top of that there is no park position, so if your going to leave it running for a minute and get out of the car you have to put it in neutral in the middle of all the settings. I'm not making any excuses for my blunder but I'm just saying......the nose is the first thing that hits even in the slightest of fender benders. That may be why some Corvairs have filler up there.

Hey Sean, great vids! I have a 65 and the front is lined up perfect. Maybe the hit on the front of yours was hard enough to pull the seam open? I am replacing the rear corners on mine. Couldn't find a left side so I had to make one. Next up is the whole floor! Joys of owning a rust bucket 😅

Thanks @VtwinGuy5. I still have a bit left to wrap up on the rust repair, but it's getting awfully close. I do think it was hit at some point but it wasn't bad enough to bend anything structural. There's one rust spot on the rear quarter I need to fix but this takes care of 90% of the rust in the car. Sean

So ironic that these rear engined cars tend to get hit on the nose. Same thing with VW Karmann Ghias; they’re sweet on getting their noses banged in. Have you thought about using panel adhesive on certain areas? It can be your friend in places like the headlight buckets.

The headlight buckets need to be able to unbolt, but thought about panel adhesive for some bits. Perhaps in the course of repairing more rust there will be a good opportunity to try adhesive.

Where was the cross bracing between the fenders when you chopped out the support provided by the front clip? Finish the rust repairs.

The front is incredibly solid without the nose in place. I couldn't move the fenders even when I tried. If the car had been more flexible it would have definitely needed cross bracing.

Finally got my 1969 Corvair model . When I paint it, I want to do the rear panel in silver around the tail lights. So do you know if the silver paint goes all the way to the end of this panel or does it stop mid way behind the outer most light? Do you know what color code it is? I want to paint it dark green which will be a custom color The interior will be tan. should look nice.

BTW Sean, when I paint up the engine, what color is a GM oil filter? Is it blue? I've found a Corvair Corsa with bumperettes on it. I'm asking the owner what size they are so I can make them.

There were a LOT of speed holes in the floor...and the wheel arches...and the door hinge...and the nose... At that rate, this thing should have been a top fuel car
