I don't think fuel injection will give the 253 V8 engine much more power rather rejecting the carburetor will, unless the EFi system is programmable then you can extract a.tad more power out of that engine since it has a set of headers & a high flow exhaust system bolted onto the engine,you might be lucky to get close to the performance of a 3.8 litre V6 VN Commodore out of it,I think you'll end up wanting to cam up the engine because 100 kilowatts of power was made out of the twin exhaust engine at the factory. I wrote to Michael Howlett on here whose into racing the 6 cylinder HQ Holdens,they have a power output of about 130 flywheel horsepower,they basically run the stock red 202 engine with the standard 9 port cylinder head fitted & the standard single barrel Bendix Stromberg carburetor. The only thing which isn't standard about them is they run the Wade 933 camshaft which Holden also fitted into the Black EFI 202 in the VK Commodore & the exhaust system is free which means they run performance headers & no mufflers right throughout the exhaust system. My point is the stock power output for a factory built red 202 6 cylinder engine is 88.5 horsepower so the race engines put out about 40 odd more flywheel horsepower. My LS1 V8 engine in my Commodores puts about 101 horsepower more than factory stock because the 315 horsepower engine in the VY SS Commodore is seriously choked up then detuned at the factory,416 flywheel horsepower is obtainable from them if a high flow twin 2.5 inch exhaust system, high flow catalytic converters & a set of tri y headers are fitted as well as being dyno tuned,I bet you'll get that out of the LSQ !

Looking forward to the EFI swap. Want to do this myself. Can you do before and after dyno and fuel consumption? Keep the part numbers and pricing going so I can evaluate if it’s worth it for me. Happy New Year.

I would love to no how use went with Pirtek doing your custom lines and hoses. I need to re route some power steering lines in my Vk. So I can keep an original type power steering set up, I have all the parts but no hoses/lines etc.. Were they easy to deal with, knowledgeable and reasonably priced also did you have to take the hq to them or did they come to you? Cheers
@HackshopGarage3 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, we will cover this in the next LSQ episode. But basically what we got was the standard commodore high pressure line that run below the engine sump, a standard HQ high pressure power steering hose, and got pirtek to cut the rubber hose off each and braze new fittings to a new rubber hose to join the two. They did a great job of it and we just have them the hoses with the length of hose measurement we needed them to fit between the two standard parts
@matthewtirchett24983 жыл бұрын
@@HackshopGarage ok awesome! I’m still unsure what I need for lines etc but I will need to work it out once the motor is in. but mainly I need someone to braze and join them if required as I’m not confident in doing that kind of stuff haha but at least I no there is someone who can help out or put me onto the correct track, I only thought pirtek did plant and machinery type stuff not back yard car builds lol 🤙 love your work, bring on the new builds

Those HQ pox boxes are worth around 50k now. I used to buy them for $500 in the 90's and leave them at the side of the road when they crapped out. Silly me.
@dasdasdsdasdasdasd3633 жыл бұрын
The subframes crack on them around the lower wishbone area, so you may want to check that out too. They really are a piece of crap but I would love to own one today. Very rare to see one on the road today. Back in the day, they were everywhere. They were never designed to last 40 years, more like 5. Which is probably longer than the warranty was back then. For a little country like Asstralia, they sold a lot of them.
@dasdasdsdasdasdasd3633 жыл бұрын
The 6 cylinder engines were simple and very reliable, but the Traumatic transmission, as we used to call it, and the rest of the body used to fall apart in short order. The manual transmissions were rubbish as well. 70's manufacturing was not like it is today. Whether that's a good thing is debatable.

@colinp12333 жыл бұрын
Hey guys, I'm thinking about LS swapping my Torana hatchback. Interested in what transmission you chose in your HQ
@HackshopGarage3 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, the transmission is a 4L60e, the standard one that came with the LS1 in the VY donor car. In standard power applications it should be fine, however the 4L60es arnt known to be the greatest or the strongest transmissions without being beefed up a little. So I would bear that in mind when deciding if it’s right for you

Out of curiosity why did you use a Falcon 6 T5 behind your Holden V8’s and not a T5 V8 out of a V8 Commodore? Cost? Availability? Ratios? Cheers.
@HackshopGarage3 жыл бұрын
Hey mate, I am no expert, but I believe the reason the T5 out of a falcon 6 is used in most applications and kits is because it brings the shifter up to an almost stock location out of the centre console. I’ve also been told that using a T5 out of a mustang will also put it in the same spot and require no cutting of the floor at all.

You want to be careful with some of the mods your going to do on those cars from stock when you have the “H” series of club permit plates they really are for generally stock cars as built from new from the factory, VicRoads are clamping down & will continue to do so S they already have cancelled a lot of bogus internet clubs & some clubs not “playing by the rules” l know this for a fact so be careful because police & highway patrol have every club played car on their data base, so don’t forget VicRoads do have special plates for Modified cars that start the letter “M” for modified as well as “SR” for street rod, so Beware now as also VicRoads will be privatised, they probably would have already but for the “ China Virus”
