Been a viewer for a long time - and today I had to comment. You did my favorite of Agalloch, yay! For that, I just wanted to say a huge thanks, and keep being awesome. :)

I listen to this song most mornings, never gets old. Great way to wake up, Agalloch is the greatest band ever.

I felt that the end, as you say full of grief, loss but also resolution to the end of the “curse” of having ultimate control, and then figuring out, he learned absolutely nothing about life. Realizing that he never actually lived and learned, although he had everything he ever wanted. That’s the journey, the oppressive black metal over shadowing the beautiful Melodies, that’s the curse of striving for possession and forgetting to enjoy it. Etc etc etc. At least, that’s kinda what I took from it in the years I listened to this song

Funny you mention the clipping. I wondered if it was in the mix, or the upload. I can't imagine that made it to the cut like that. Probably an issue with this specific upload.

This song is very well done. The fan video with the Faust movie from the 1920’s fits this song so well. It’s as close to perfect as one can expect!!

My favorite song that takes you on a journey is Tulimyrsky, by Moonsorrow. Another epic at nearly 30 minutes long, it's part black metal, part folk metal, and features some quieter sections. It tells the story of a village suffering a raid from vikings, which is in fact a reprisal for a raid previously enacted by the villagers on those who are now attacking them. It's really quite moving to follow the translated lyrics as the story progresses, given the vocals are all in Finnish.

I really liked this. I'm going to look and see if I listened to your album review, if I didn't, I most likely will.

Kinda funny that you are unsure what to expect in the beginning, because you did a few of their other songs before and a whole album reaction :D Actually your reactions introduced them to me and they're one of my all-time favorites now.

Oh snap! They did Ashes Against the Grain! There's something about their name that just doesn't stick with me 😅. I couldn't put a sound to the other 3 songs I've done for them but that album had an impact on me. Just gotta figure out how to mentally tie the band name to that album lol

@@CriticalReactions well, that makes sense, I kinda have the same thing with names and faces in general. Also you're doing so many reactions that it's gotta be hard to remember all of it.

Wind and soul are related etymologically (pneuma). A fitting story to end with Man only being air.

As a huge black metal fan and even with agalloch being my favorite band, I do somewhat agree with the first part feeling like its a lot longer then it was. but then the rest of the song feels like it goes pretty quick.

One of the best bands! Since you’ve done an album review of them before this little more unexpected pick is just fine imo

Despite being a huge fan of Agalloch's albums I only have a faint memory of this one, perhaps because it was released as a single-song EP. Anyway, I did enjoy this, but these days I find myself appreciating the melodic sections more than the traditional BM sections, and I don't think if I'd heard this song in isolation these days if it would've made me think of them as "the BM Opeth" like I did back when I was exploring their albums.
