Hi Matt, Thanks for taking the time to post these videos. I've been inspired by your videos and this trip you posted to the air races was a great boost to my morale. You had a cool snapshot of an F-16 screaming by, a plane I worked on at Luke AFB for 15 years. I could just imagine myself one day flying my daughters out in our airplane to see the air races and spending time together. That dream is still more than a year away but I have faith. You have a great airplane that has safely and reliably taken you around the world. Weigh the cost / benefits of fixing and stick to a decision without sentiment. Pray about every decision and you'll make the right choice. I once had a supervisor in the AF that crewed F-15's. They had a jet that would do an uncommanded roll to the left very slowly. They troubleshooted the jet to exhaustion, finding no fault with anything in the system, yet replaced a few parts that were suspected culprits. A few actuators here, sensors there, computers here. The problem never went away. Finally, after repeated "repeats and recurs", that jet was given a proper grounding until it was fixed or broken up for parts. Top tech reps from Boeing were flown out to have a crack at it again. This one tech rep got there before the jet was de-paneled and work had begun. He did a very slow and meticulous walk around of the jet starting at the nose cone and ending at the nose cone. Then he noticed something so small and seemingly insignificant that anyone would dismiss it. On the F-15 nose cone is a metal cap on the very tip. That cap is installed by one screw. He saw that the screw had been installed cross threaded and was not fully seated. He then realized that it was also fairly level with an angle of attack transmitter (that look like spikes) about 15 feet away. It turns out the screw was jutting up into the airstream just enough to cause the slightest vortex down along the side of the radome to affect the AOA transmitter. The transmitter did not get the matching air flow the opposite side had and so the computer thought the jet was banking to the right and gave a command to the flight controls to counter with roll input to the left and the pilot was left out of the loop. You could hear dozens of face palms smacking all day long after that one. That was the bonafide fix after hundreds of man hours and many thousands in replacement parts all it was was a little screw-up! Don't be discourage by a little screw up on your plane. I thought your problem may need to be tested with the gear up and engine running to simulate flight conditions but it looks like you may not have had the chance to raise the gear on this last flight before it failed again. You're a great pilot and your plane's in very good hands, its just that they're looking for a unicorn. I suggest praying for the answer to be revealed is not a crazy notion. God has kept you aloft all this time maybe he just wants to hear from you a little more. God Bless you and keep us posted!

I once has a Volvo that wouldn't start before 10:00 AM. In the end it was a hairline fracture in European style fuse. Before 10:00 AM it was cold, the band of copper in the fuse contracted and so it wouldn't make contact. By 10:00 AM it warmed up, the copper expanded, and the car would start and run. The fuse controlled a relay that on the surface of things didn't appear to affect the starting of the car. In the end, your problem will probably end up looking something like this. MAYBE you should replace all of your fuses?

Something not quite right with an earth or power connection?. Maybe try tilting your head in a different direction on takeoff??. (not funny, sorry). Alternator belt driven or direct shaft?. Could it be what the alternator couples to on the engine? (drive boss/shaft slipping??.). Take care and trusting it all works out ok for you Matt. :) All updates most welcome, even short ones.

My (uneducated) opinion - it's not wiring, it's not the alternator, it's an earthing problem. Something is mounted badly or there is corrosion where something is mounted; possible an earth strap missing altogether.

Disappointing that the Bonanza’s alternator went on the fritz again but at least you got to go with your crew up to Reno. I like not taking any chances, keep doing it right!

Have they been able to replicate the alt failure on the ground? If not then you’re throwing good money after bad. Ruled out harmonic interference? Electrical gremlins would make one a little apprehensive.

I bet it would be hard to rid of the airplane when you have such a history with it. I would go new if you could afford it. Maybe because you went around the world in it it would become a collectors item and bought by a museum?? I really like your video's keep doing them please. I feel I have gone around the world with you without leaving my desk. Good luck with the charging issues.

Can the current engine & related systems be refitted with the new Continental turbo-diesel?
@av8or971
@av8or971 3 жыл бұрын
@@donjohnston3776 I am not sure. It all depends on what engine platforms have been certified in that particular platform, unless one changes an aircraft over to experimental, and then you can pretty much do whatever you want and then get an new airworthy certificate issued. I doubt a bonanza has a large list of certified engines for the airframe, but i could be wrong.

They are all lemons hidden underneath, that’s why “Blackwell” completely rips out the crappy wiring job done at the factory and re-wires the whole thing with dual independent busses. So many ignorant owners with old Bonanzas think their plane is great cause of its shiny paint job.
