And then they walked out of Hadestown and Orpheus didn't look back and he and Euridice had a long happy life together and I will not hear a word to the contrary.

It's honestly impressive to me that this audience had it in them to clap at the end. When I saw this, we were silent as a graveyard. Mind you, my crowd was very responsive through the rest of the performance. But after Eurydice's last "I'm coming!" ... nothing. It was like if we made any disturbance, we were going to throw them off and ruin everything. The tension was unlike anything I'd felt in a theater.

One thing that I just noticed is that at around 2:54 when both of the couples are holding hands, You can see that in the back Orpheus let's go of Eurydice rather quickly and abruptly maybe symbolizing the foreshadowing of their future, how Orpheus 'let's go first' and turns around and seals their fate. While Persephone and Hades, even when the other two separate, you can still see them holding hands tightly as if their savoring their time together and when they do separate, it's this in this slow and meaningful implying that they were savoring each others presence and know the other would be waiting for them😭

I'm ngl, Hades and Persephone absolutely stole the show for me. i was so much more invested in the complex, painful progress of their relationship.
@l.n.3372 Жыл бұрын
Excellent analysis! I think both couples have a lot to offer in terms of performance. Hades/Persephone feels more mature, working back to each other after distance has chilled their relationship. For Orpheus/Eurydice tho, it's the tragic failed, doomed relationship that you know won't succeed but you enjoy the tragedy of the journey nonetheless.

"Do you think they'll make it?" "I don't know." "Hades, you let them go." "I let them try." "And how about you and I? Are we going to try again?" "It's time for spring. We'll try again next fall." "Wait for me." "I will." And then they hold on as long as possible before gracefully letting go. Oof. The exchange between Hades and Persephone touches me in a way I can't even explain. I root for them far more than I root for Orpheus and Eurydice.

I would really like to see this with someone who doesn't know the story. But also that I think of one of Persphone's last lines in the final song is just, well, not true. He never gets over it. And he likely will never be reunited with her because his afterlife wouldn't send him there.

None of the performances I’ve seen are ever as impressive as the soundtrack. Why doesn’t Eva do the higher octave ending in any of the shows like she does on the soundtrack
@bellac63112 жыл бұрын
because its easier to sing notes at the top of your range when standing still in a recording booth than when also moving around on stage. Many musicals adapt the notes for live performances because its not as sustainable for someone to push the top of their voice eight times a week, and its difficult to reach the note at all when moving/dancing

@@esshor. probably because they were trying to make it more authentic to what you would hear at any of the other performances. That way if anyone chose to go see the full show they wouldn't be confused/disappointed by the change. on the albums they have a bit more freedom to switch things up or add things because people who listen to the album aren't necessarily going to see the show and those who saw the show and then listened to the album would be pleasantly surprised by the differences.
@evilbob9970 Жыл бұрын
@@esshor. It's also important to remember that soundtracks are typically recorded prior to when the show goes live. As Bella mentioned, when the show is in its run, the actors are performing multiple times a week, sometimes more than once in a day. It can be extremely taxing on one's vocal cords. There are several instances of notable lead actors, such as Idina Menzel (as Elphaba from Wicked) and Barrett Wilbert-Weed (as Veronica from Heathers), needing to recover from vocal strain/damage after performing in strenuous roles. The decision not to opt up can definitely affect the sound of the song, and it's totally fine to prefer an opted up part and to wish for it during live performances, but it's also a decision made with the actors' health, well-being, and continued career in mind

These actors perform 5-6 days a week, 8 shows a week, twice a day, for 3 hour shows. They barely get breaks because all of their "freetime" mainly consists of rehearsals and other gigs for other projects they may be involved in. Being in a musical is not for the weak. Somedays he may not have as much energy to belt his notes. Just like Eva in this song. She doesn't always belt the last note of the song because she may not have the energy for it.
@loganhill94252 жыл бұрын
