I'll forever hold Quast as my favorite Javert, but like... Hadley Fraser's Javert is just so, so good! Quast is the no-nonsense hardened lawman Javert, and Fraser is the youthfully relentless pursuer-of-perceived-justice Javert. Both are exceptional, and both are honestly super good takes! You can believe either one of them to be a person that exists- heck, you may have even run into someone who fits either disposition in your own life. God, I love this show!

I feel like Hadley did a very different interpretation of Javert here, and I'm not sure if I like it. Musically speaking, it was executed really well, but I feel like the character Javert is more controlled, but with an underlying sense of malice, almost insanity. It seems that here he makes his anger and intensity a bit too apparent. Just my two cents.
@bruhmoment48994 жыл бұрын
I feel like this song is javert’s breaking point and all the stoicism and absolute belief in his ideology starts cracking which is why he loses control. He starts questioning his beliefs which results in this intense emotion and anger taking over which works in the context of this song

I was literall about to write almost this exact comment. Except I would disagree about the underlying insanity. Hugo really does a fantastic of making you think Javert is the villain, when he is really only doing what he has always been told is right. In his mind, Valjean is the villain.
@Brynwyn1236 жыл бұрын
Tristen Sima Victor Hugo never wrote Javert as a villain. The negative driving force is society, Javert is just caught up on the wrong side of history and trying to do his best. He's one of Les Miserables like everyone else.

I don't like the fact that he sang the middle passage up the octave. It makes it too similar to Jean Val Jean's soliloquy.
@mike.marziliano246015 жыл бұрын
Aaron Ford that's the point. The reason this song was written with the same melody as Valjean's soliloquy was to show that Valjean and Javert were going through similar situations. With this octave jump, Fraser just made it all the more compelling.
