Sameer Great job on delivery of content and knowledge! One tip. when presenting stay to left or the right of the screen. Too much movement across the screen makes it difficult to follow what you 're saying as one may end up focusing on your constant moving back and forth.

Hi Max. Yes, the client connects directly to the DataNodes to get/put the blocks. However, before the client goes to the DN, it first goes to the NameNode to get a list of locations to write the block to (3 DNs). The NN is not in the read/write path as far as the block goes. Client just have to go to the NN to find out where to do the writes.

Hey, Sameer - good presentation. And a quick point about you moving around, which someone criticized. I think you _should_ move a bit rather than standing like a wooden block. Especially when you are presenting to a room of people, if you stand in one place then some people won't see. If you move, they get a chance to see the slides. So, keep it moving. ;^) And tell Alex and Rooz that Chris Bedford said Hi.

Hi bhayz00, that's not an easy question to answer in a comment. Hadoop (HDFS+MR) is just for batch analysis like doing full scans of your files. HBase and Cassandra are both column family databases for low latency (

Very helpful tutorial! One question. How is it possible that i have less blocks than the number of files? Shouldn't every file break down to at least 1 block? Which means blocks >= total files?
