Really enjoyed the 3 videos. I walked the route a couple of months ago (Jul 21) with HF Holidays. A great chance to stretch the legs after coming out of lock down. About 15 miles a day, 6 days walking, a few minor detour - only 2 x 5min heavy showers, great company. highly recommended.

@@DeanRead so many of the images in the video brought it all back. Kept in contact with the people on the trip and they all have an open invite to visit me in West Cumbria if they want to walk the western lakes or start the C2C from St Bees, just 8 miles down the road. People don't realise how hard the walk is - of 16 who started, 3 had days off due to injuries (blisters or little used muscles feeling the strain). Having a guide makes it great fun - you failed to point out the penis carved in the wall just past Birdoswald!! - and hotels each night with comfy beds and and prepared food. We did about 15 miles a day (Bowness to Carlisle, C to Bank tower, Tower to Steel Rigg, SR to Heddon, and H to Wallsend. West Highland Way next? I think you had a video on that too so that'll be a good starting point. Keep on walking and filming

Fantastic videos Dean, really enjoyed watching all of these. There must be an awful lot of effort goes in to present them like this so thanks! Also nice to see some local 'landmarks' - and my home town of Whitley Bay's welcome was its usual self - cold wet and windy; hope you weren't too disappointed by the lack of Waltzers at Spanish City...those halcyon days are long gone. Cheers again for sharing. Simon

Thanks for watching Simon, i'd been wanting to go to Whitley Bay for a long while so I was really pleased that we tagged it on to the end of this trip. I have plans to return as i'm awaiting the arrival of the lyrics to "Tunnel of Love" being etched on to the promenade. i'm a huge Dire Straits / Mark Knopfler fan so will be back again once they have finished the regeneration of the Spanish City. thanks again for watching and commenting mate, its much appreciated

The 3rd and final instalment of our Hadrian's Wall walk from this time last year is dedicated to days 4 and 5. We set off from Harlow Hill on day 4 and ended in Newcastle upon Tyne where we had some great night time views of the Tyne bridges. On day 5 our day started with a gruesome discovery as we headed to Segedunum at Wallsend. We eventually finished the adventure at the Spanish City in Whitley Bay and dipped our feet in the sea.

Really enjyed your trip into 3 vids mate, cannot thank you enough for showing me most of the bits of the wall, (I have walked from housesteads to steel Rigg years ago with me wife, mainly because there was a good car park at Housesteads? and we terminated at steel rigg because the wife was totally bored & cold it was early April!, so we caught the bus back to housteads along the military road). that was only about 4 or 5 miles, and I have always wanted to go further along the wall, but according to your vid, I have already did the best of it (give or take), the start (first 15 miles maybe and certainly from Chollerford to Wallsend are totally rubbish for the historic content?, So I don't feel so bad now, thank you for your endevour and for my relief?.

@DeanRead8 жыл бұрын
+Jeffwizzard Hi Jeff thanks for watching. I didn't know about the Dog Leap Stairs, I'd like to return to the city again to have a look around
@Jeffwizzard8 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply Dean followed your journey on Hadrians Wall and the pilgrimage you made to the Spanish City in the steps of your hero Mark Knopfler/Dire Straits back along the Newcastle quayside is the location of the Dog Leap Stairs made famous in another Dire Straits track Down to The Waterline with the lyric NEAR MISSES ON THE DOG LEAP STAIRS According to Mark Knopfler's brother David, the song's imagery is based on Mark's memories of walking along the River Tyne at night under the lights with his girlfriend when he was a teenager. A friend of mine from Brisbane Australia made his pilgrimage there in September, on your video you go up to the Brew Dog Bar just behind you at the side of the bridge arch are the steps check them out on google earth. One last piece of useless info just up from Brew Dog Bar is where Berghaus started It was founded in 1966 by climbers and mountaineers Peter Lockey and Gordon Davison, initially as an importer and distributor of outdoors products. Lockey and Davison's outdoor store in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, UK, went by the name of the LD Mountain Centre. In 1972 they began designing and manufacturing their own products for sale in their shop. They called their brand 'Berghaus' which is a literal translation of 'mountain house' in German. www.geograph.org.uk/photo/1810481
