Scorch works by dealing around ~6 damage every tick equaling 40 damage per second. Air Quality makes each tick deal 30 instead of ~6, giving you 4-5 times more damage from Scorch per second while the number still ticks down at 40 per second. edit: this is patch 2, out of date

oh so, say a special hit gives "60 scorch", i guess we can assume its a ~10 scorch ticks given, with each tick dealing ~6 damage totaling at 60 damage NOW with air quality, each tick deals 30 damage, and you still get 10 scorch ticks, totaling at 300 damage? holy shit thats busted lmao

Also regarding the 60Hz stuff. In a vacuum it's hard to distinguish things once you go faster than 60 fps, but if you're playing on a high refresh monitor (e.g. 144) and you have 144fps, I absolutely will notice when the game drops from 144 to 60...which leads me to believe that it does matter. But as someone in the chat said - the consistency really matters. A constant 60FPS feels better (to me) than 120FPS with drops to 60, for example, even though your average FPS would be higher in the latter because the drops feel bad

@@noxfelis5333 People can register (and process) only about 28 frames per second, but our mind will be selective from what the eyes can see to catch the most smooth sequence for an image it can. That "selective" picking and processing is the difference people can see between 30 and 60 and more FPS (up to around 300 I believe, but diminishing return, you can spot way more difference between 30 to 60 than 60 to 144). Also the amount of FPS changes the feel of the responsiveness of inputs so in action games it affects the gameplay feel.

Exactly this for Bloodborne too. I have a 165 hz monitor but also a Steam Deck, and 30 FPS on Steam Deck feels great. Bloodborne on PS4 can barely hold 30, it's so choppy and unstable. It's really distracting and I don't know how I played it back in the day. I'm sure it's better on PS5 but I don't have that.

Yeah, but consider that Aphrodite boons can give you an 80%-150% increase in damage at level 1 depending on rarity. That's a lot less work depending on far less RNG to get the same marginal benefit. Now, there is the caveat that Aphrodite special doesn't apply a curse which makes applying origination harder. But Aphrodite plus two curse boons is easier than Hestia plus air quality plus five air. So is it good? Yeah, the damage melted Cerberus and Chronos handily. Best, most consistent option? Not hardly

It wasn't at all OP and it wasn't terrible (like scorch usually is). If the devs want to make Hestia viable then this would be a great step in the right direction.

31:15 higher than 60fps messes up mechanics in some games, and enhances the feel of others. I think there are parkour related skips for Doom 2016 / Eternal that use unlocked frame rate, in a parkour game I play edges feel like they eat your jumps at 60fps, but unlocked it doesn't.

60fps is 100% important for a game like Bloodborne, there is a night and day difference between playing the base game and the game with the FPS hack. If you can't tell the difference between 60fps and 120fps/144fps then it's (most likely) because your monitor's refresh rate most likely caps out at 60hz.

I think Dionysus was the least exciting H1 god, and Hestia is essentially a rework of Dionysus. They both follow the "applicable DOT effect" formula, but I feel like Hestia does it way better, just feels nicer not to be limited to like 5 max poison stacks and be able to pile the fire up infinitely. Their common issue is very limited dps, literally capped at the game's hard limit. My big problem with Dio is that any build centered around him REQUIRED the duos that just made his curse flat out completely better - quicker procs and bigger limits. With Hestia I'd argue there isn't enough stuff that makes Scorch better - you either shoot for the legendary that doubles scorch DPS (which isn't nearly enough tbh), or stuff that reworks her mechanic, like Fire Ext. I still feel like Hestia is miles better than Dio, just feels somewhat undercooked. Wish there was more to do with scorch other than have more ways to apply it - I only had a special scorch boon on Knives with the Demeter duo - and Chronos had around 40k scorch by the end of his fight - problem is, I couldn't do anything with it, other than run around just waiting for the scorch to run out, or just ignore the measly dot and damage him directly.

Huh, the least interesting one is Demeter. She just slows enemy in Hades 1 and her boons aren't that good either. Dio actually has more interesting playstyle. Just because you dislike dot damage doesn't mean he is weak. Dio actually has mechanic to increase his damage which is less present in Hestia for now. That's why Dio looks better for now.

@@HerMi.T Demeter at least had interesting support boons, and her main curse had easily accessible damage options that, unlike Dio, didn't limit your DPS. You can't do more damage with Dio than the game limits you to, no matter how you look at it. You'll spend the whole run hunting the duos that make hangover stack three more times and deal damage like 30% faster. With Hestia, you can at least stack a bunch of Scorch and forget about it, but with Dio you not only have very lacking dot, you also have to constantly worry about reapplying it, if you want it to do anything at all

I think heroic Spontaneous Combustion was the secret - well, not Most Valuable Player, but maybe Most Improved Player? - of this run, and something to aim for in a scorch build if Air Quality isn't feasible. Starting every scorch application at 180 makes a huge difference in Fire Extinguisher damage, triggering it about twice as often.

I tried a scorch build in the past with daggers atk to apply scorch fast Demeter cast to proc the duo with Hestia (burn x2 when you apply frost and cast proc often without you doing much) Hephaistos run (duo with demeter reset frost cd) You just apply 1000 burn, drop a cast and run around the boss and it multiply x2 every second, I reached 100k on Cronos. It's fun but it doesn't feel like burn demage are doing as much damage as direct damages. Appolo makes for a great 4th god.

On the subject of forsaking Slow Cooker, what you did was roll it away in your foolish quest to get Fire Extinguisher. What Forsaking does is stop the other two things which were offered when you chose your boon from showing again, but if you rerolled the options, the choices you were offered before the reroll are not forsaken.

it strikes me that Thermal Dynamics+Air Quality could make for a devastating combo. As long as you keep inflicting Blitz, AQ will make the scorch damage high enough to re-proc it very quickly.

I'm guessing the first hit of scorch deals the 30 damage, then everything after that counts up from 30. So if you apply 60 scorch it does 30 for the first tick then an additional 59. Idk tho I'm not a science

I think demeter having 2 curses will be more balanced when there are more gods in the game. Even right now it’s not insane, although I do think it upsets the otherwise fun balance of getting curses for origination.

Framerate discussion: IMO, 3D environment, first person games benefit greatly from higher refresh rate. Games like Hades or side scrollers, not so much. In either case, it is preferable to have a stable framerate, be it 30, 60 or 120+ than to deal with refresh rates that are constantly bouncing all over the place.

Above 60 FPS? My ROG Strix 15 laptop can hit 200+ FPS for Hades 2, and I can attest, there is really no noticeable difference. The graphics might be a little SMOOTHER with a lot of shit going on at once, but when I cap the Frame Rate at 60FPS, there really is no difference. The only real reason for the FPS flex is when I want to play something like Star Citizen, I can still get great FPS.

it is 40 damage per second but the raw value is 10 damage per 0.25 seconds. It is written on Smoldering ring for scorch does. Air quality makes it 30 per 0.25 second. It turns 40 dps per second to 120 dps. This is known combo since day 1.

I promise you can identify 30 FPS on sight. I can turn on a game I’ve never played or seen, and trust 30fps is noticeable. Bloodborne 30 fps sucks because it makes the game less smooth and the game gets frame drops anyway so being far above 30 is nice to compensate.

FPS shouldn't really make much of a difference for games, but for live action movies it's actually quite noticeable. Though the higher FPS the movies need to be shot at makes prostetics and make-up normally not noticeable on camera easily apparent.

I don't think FPS concerns over game is an over-fought "battle". The difference from 30-60 is very noticeable. You can maybe get used to 30 after enough time on it, sure. But that doesn't detract from the fact 60 is just way better. It's why it will feel ugly going back to 30 from 60. People don't need to push hard for anything above 60 though

scorch damage is dealt gradually. so scorch damage 40 means you will stack 40 debuff on enemy. and the enemy will be damaged by 1 per tick until the stack is gone. so by that logic, because the minimum damage is 30, it will be damaged by 30 per tick making it better.

I don't think it increase the damage overall. it's just making scorch damage dealt quicker because instead of reducing the damage stack 1 by 1, it reduces it by 30 every ticks.

It's unclear what the actual effect ticks are, but it's currently multiplying scorch DPS by a large amount and likely not affecting the stacks of "scorch" on the enemy. As soon as it was picked up damage clearly increased substantially with what appears to be little effect on the rate scorch was getting stacked on enemies. How much it ACTUALLY increases the ticks by is unclear. I'd be incredibly surprised if it were actually ticking a 1scorch=1damage 40 times per second from a computer programming perspective. It just uses a ton of resources for no reason. If it's like 10scorch = 10 damage 4 times per second, then Air Quality would increase scorch DPS and damage by 3x. It's clearly a substantial increase to both however.
