I actually really love this movie, I'm a sucker for the schmaltzy romance and pretty songs, I LOVE "Let me be your wings" but the biggest flaw of the movie is why doesn't she get on the damn bird!! He could have just flown her home

The latter you say really is the biggest problem with the movie. The way it's all executed just makes the plot very lazy.

Jacamole (?) is honestly the most annoying character in the entire movie, and I feel he’s more of a French stereotype than anything. All he does is sing about romance and “follow your heart” which is so blunt. Literally half the time he’s the one getting her into these messes and doesn’t even actually do anything to get Cornelius or the other fairies to help out.

Your voice is very pleasing to the ear. I do hope you make another review, as you are far more mellow than most internet reviewers. Also you have good editing. I recommend All Dogs go to Heaven as a review, as it is a similarly imperfect movie.

Though All Dogs Go to Heaven is better than Thumbelina in my opinion.

@@Joshua_Quinzel_Isley Very much so, but it is another Don Bluth movie that has similarly beautiful imperfections. It also has a lot of strengths, especially the protagonist's redemption arc.

Lets compare Jacquimo to another French bird from another Don Bluth film, Henri from "An American Tail". Whereas Henri was there to give Fievel the confidence to set off and reunite with his family and his song "Never say never" was only sung once and after that, Fievel was on his way. Jacquimo on the other hand constantly interrupts the story, proves how useless his moral shoving existence is, and the main character he's helping seems more annoyed at him then we are.

Yep! I’ve only seen both once, but Jacquimo was so annoying because he doesn’t actually do anything to help Thumbelina to find the fairy realm or her house. All he does is constantly crow “You can do impossible things if you follow your heart!” And doesn’t even offer to try to carry her! I get Thumbelina is in a very strange world she doesn’t know, but all he does is confuse her even more. It was honestly so annoying he survived. Plus, legit Jacquimo’s face is so creepy, like if a clown got turned into a bird

Great review! You really hit the nail on the head as to why this film fails on so many levels. I do have some nostalgia for it as I was just the right age for it when it was released and I remember watching it a lot, but even as a four year old I could remember not liking Jaquimo and feeling there were too many characters and plot threads. The animation is decent at least and I admit one or two of the songs aren't completely bad, but you could tell Don Bluth was strongarmed by Warner Bros. into making it like a Disney film. In fact, when they screened this movie for test audiences, it got a more positive response when they played the Disney logo before it, I kid you not. All in all, not the worst animated movie, but far from the best. I'm definitely checking out what else you've done cuz you've got a knack for reviews =)

Hahaha, very entertaining review :) I must say I still like this movie and it was a favourite of mine when I was a kid, but yeah, looking back on it (and other kids films) you can pick out what's wrong in it. And oh Lord, that bird Jacimo... I found him annoying even as a kid. And I used to also think "why don't you just FLY THUMBELINA HOME?!" XD

Some things you made fun of, like how thumbelina was called ugly and the thing on the rosepedal, were from the original story by H.C. Andersen. I noticed in this video that the Swedish dub lyrics actually were a million times better than the English ones, with more poetry and working metaphors... I grew up to this movie and I love it, but I watched it recently and felt like it had a lot of issues that I didn't care about as a child. Also the Spanish accent is hilarious in the Swedish version, here the mother's voice destroys the theme I grew up to and thought was so funny

The "ugly" motif worked moderately in the original story format, but in the film it seemed tacked-on and lazily handled. I like this movie as a guilty pleasure, but it's still a fairly shallow and lame attempt at adapting the source material.

I think the "ugly" issue didn't really work because it lasted only like 5 seconds and felt like filler as a result. And something that bugged me about since I first saw the movie when I was 13 (so I didn't grow up with this movie, I found out about when I was a little older), at first, when Thumblina was called "ugly" by the beatles, she was all "whatever" and then she's devastated and crying about it on the mushroom. They weren't super consistent about it.

This film is an aright film. I grew up watching this film. Most of the songs are good, the characters are good, but not amazing. The story is fair. Mrs. Toad stole my heart when I became an adult. Mrs. Toad needs more fanart.

I grew up with the Good Times Thumbelina, I've never heard of this version before. And for some reason this Thumbelina reminds me of Alice from Alice in Wonderland.

You may have missed it, but the singing cow near the beginning was voiced by the late Tony Jay. Yes, that same Tony Jay who voices Frollo, Megabyte from ReBoot, and of course, Mr. "We've got to have MONEY" Lickboot from that one Tom and Jerry movie. One other thing you forgot to mention the "impossible romance thing" where Jacquimo brings up Samson and Delilah as well as Romeo and Juliet. Am I the only one who noticed this? Very nice review, by the way.

Oh lord as a kid I loved this film now when I seen it as an adult I actually hate it now The animation is nice and the characters are decent and some of the songs were nice but by god the Marry The Mole was shit no wonder it won a Razzie for worst song. Here is a little trivia with ya Jodi Benson was the voice of Ariel from The Little Mermaid and the guy that plays the beetle in this movie was in Aladdin as Iago Gilbret Goodfried.

Wow- this was actualy good review! Dude you have potential, i would support you if you would continue, I understand that its taking too much time and effort to put such thing together, but what i saw just now- maybe you could go to be on top at reviewer list....if that makes sence. and also there are alot of people that tries to NC orchannel awsome wannabe, and some plinket wannabe, but not many are that analytical or open minded, and sometime it feels someone hears something from someone else and rehash the same review without giveng out theire own opinion on it. final word- continue- i see brite future for ya!
