The 50 Dirhams you were charged is a standard fee for what appears to be a LARGE taxi which can take several (approx) 6 passengers. The smaller taxis can carry a Max of 3 Pax (Govt.rule) and the trip from the Station to the Mellah, where you disembarked would cost between 20 to 30 Dirhams. Tourists mistakenly think that Marrakech is immune from world events and increases in prices such as fuel etc. It is not. Compared to most western countries taxis are still inexpensive. If you had contacted the Riad or Hotel prior to your arrival (rather than a booking agency) they are generally amenable to order a taxi on your behalf if you give them a rough ETA.

The carpet takes almost two months work by women in the villages next to Marrakech , by buying their carpets you contribute to last this hand crafted jobs..

For sure! We actually visited a house/village where the Berber women were making the carpets, and bought some from them too :)

The guy on 11.19 probably scammed them with highest price ever and gave them a 1$ (10 dhs) gift, those carpets are machine made they cost 150 Dhs and no Moroccans would buy them or even look at them.
