Of course the Ottoman government renovated the Hagia Sofia Mosque over the centuries? It's a Mosque! If it was any other religious building it would have been destroyed, repurposed, or left to fall down over time like was done with hundreds if not thousands of other churches some that were also very large and were also built by the romans in Anatolia a thousand years ago.

Hagia Sophia is an Orthodox church that was converted into a mosque. The credit for its magnificence should be given to Byzantine Emperor Justinian the Great rather than the Muslim population.

Hagia Sophia was built as a Catholic Church by Emperor Constantine it was built with great history. It was taken by the Ottoman and converted to Islam faith. During the repair one of the Architecture said he found the statue of Jesus Christ right in the middle of the dome and various lyrics of Christians images around the walls of the Church covered under Muslims images. The truth is this is a Catholic Church and the spirit of our Lord Jesus Christ is still on top of this beautiful Church dome.This is one of Emperor Constantine famous Church in history he built centuries ago during his reign when he won all the battles during that time.

@@borisstefanov2983 well if the Roman Empire at that time followed the commandments of God, would still be THE CHURCH, but it is the will of God to allow Mehmed the Conqueror to conquer Constantinople and lasted for just short of 700 years. Again, if the Osmanlis had stayed true to their beliefs like their fore fathers ie Ertugrul Ghazi and Osman, sultans after that failed for the love of gold and money! The English with America did everything in their power to conquer but partially failed. Ataturk saved Turkey but had many clauses to the west and unfortunately don’t have the same power like Osmanlis to fully rule Türkiye. Every great empire who are not fully committed to God falls like media Persia, Greece, Babylon and ancient Rome.

There are hundreds of old churches in Europe that were sold to Muslims because they had no congregation. Nobody calls them churches anymore because they were converted into mosques. Fatih Sultan Mehmet Han bought Hagia Sophia, which was neglected and was plundered during the Crusades and abandoned to its fate, and turned it into a mosque. Now stop crying, Greeks, Bulgarians, Indians, Armenians, Russians, give account of the thousands of mosques you destroyed.

Hagia Sophia, "High Wisdom" used to be theost important church in gje Byzantine empire. Then when the Ottomans took over, they turned it into s mosque. Because that's what they do (muslims). It is is no longer "high wisdom," but high submission. It needs to be cleansed of Islam and turned back into a church or at least a museum.
