Nona Curse Speaker the Puppet Master! I really like the framing of hags being more artificer like, specializing in one freaky hobby instead of being a pure spellcaster. It certainly makes the one in your example feel more threatening than just encountering a green hag by themselves.

Glad you think so! :) Hag’s need a little help, but if every element is present it makes for a great encounter

Great video. I love using hags, especially the green ones. First campaign I ran, part 2 of 3 I titled, These are not the Druids You’re Looking For. It was a mashup of Matt Colville’s Siege of Castle Rend and WebDM’s Curse of Razel Sinn. The party leaves for Bedagar with a request from the Halfling Mafia to aid the Druids of Bedagar who are being held wrongly. Players arrive in Bedagar where one calamity is stacked on another. The fields have blighted. Babies are being born malformed and being stolen by monsters. Babies that are fine are stolen, though some are returned. The most recent calamity is that the Baron and his sons were killed recently by Orcs. Lady Bedagar and her daughter survived, and Lord Saxton, the regent, is stepping up to take over. All calamities are blamed on the Druids, now imprisoned, and the Court Wizard, Tace, who is notably absent. The players sprung the Druids who aren’t sure what the problem is. A local sorceress, the kindly Pinna, is kidnapped in the night by Orcs. The villagers are distraught. Pinna was their last ray of hope. The players tracked the orcs to their lair, an abandoned and derelict castle in the woods. The players storm the castle, killed the orcs and rescue Pinna and Edmund Bedagar, the young not dead heir to the barony. Somehow the players learn that the orcs were hired by Saxton to kill Baron Bedagar and his two sons. The Orc leader suspected something fishy and kept Edmund alive for later(players learned this from Edmund after killing the Orcs and freeing him). I don’t remember why, but Tace shows up and talks to the players casting suspicion on Saxton and Lady Bedagar. The players return with Edmund and call out Saxton. They fight, the players win killing Saxton and his boys who turned out to be werewolves. It seems all is settled. The players are waiting for some mercenaries to turn up and have downtime. They investigate the monsters taking the children. Turns some Satyrs had been active and the deformed children were Satyr babies. The Satyrs made allusion to the Hags in the area, though it was rather more veiled than that. I had previously described Lady Bedagar wearing a veil and her daughter having the palest complexion they’d ever seen as well as eyes of different colors. My buddy put the whole puzzle together and called me out about it at work. I was a bit on the spot because I don’t have a great poker face. Lady Bedagar was a Green Hag using Alter Self to create a persona as being a Half Elf Noble. After the Baron’s previous wife died, this hag had seduced him and born him a Changeling Daughter. She and another green hag, who was present as lady in waiting/nursemaid, had formed a coven, I forget how I fit a third hag in, and had enacted the blight. They had given Saxton a potion that brought on his werewolf nature and allowed him more control than normal over his werewolf nature(though I did have some random killings because of Saxton and his werewolves). The Hags had kidnapped the newborn girls and returned them as changelings to grow up into hags in the future. My buddy had his moment in the spotlight where he explained how he’d figured out that Lady Bedagar was a Hag. An epic fight ensued with the players killing the Hag. That is how I used a couple Green Hags in my first campaign ever.

Thanks for the comment! Great story. Hags infiltrating a nobles court is a fun plot hook. Pretty tangled web of stuff going on here too. Very cool!
