From GuitCon 2017 at the Warwick & Framus HQ in Germany
One of the companies that joined us at GuitCon was Hagstrom Guitars of Sweden.
Hagstrom has a long history in rock and roll, propelling some of rock's greatest artists. After a long hiatus, Hagstrom has returned to form with several new and exciting models including this new take on their classic single cut, the Super Swede!
The Super Swede has always been a favorite of mine, considering my penchant for Les Paul-style guitars. The Swede series always had eye-catching curves that instantly made you recognize that this was no Gibson...this was all Hagstrom!
This new model, taking design cues from the recent Three Kings Limited Edition, features a striking gloss black finish and newly designed Lundgren Humbucker pickups.
This guitar is a absolute delight and one I hope to see more of in the future.
Find out more about here: www.hagstromguitars.com
Thank you so much to Warwick & Framus for hosting us at GuitCon 2017.
A big thanks to all the companies for supplying us with cool gear, including: Paul Reed Smith Guitars, Ibanez Guitars, Hagstrom Guitars, Schecter Guitars, TC Electronic, Joyo, Reverb.com, Two Notes, Revv Amplification, and more!
A huge thanks to the following companies for outfitting our production facilities including: Triad-Orbits, PreSonus, Sommer Cable, Eve Audio, Two Notes, Universal Audio, and more!

This is the model that put hagstrom on the map for a lot of people I think, alternative to an LP for less than an LP price (usually) and an awesome axe in it's own right.

RJW14 Not really, Elvis, Zappa, Hendrix, Billy Gibbons, Angus Young Joe Walsh, Larry Coryell, and so many others were playing Hagstrom (the original Swedish made company which made guitars starting in 1959) before the introduction of the Super Swede in the late Seventies. It was a long scale / pup splitting innovation which was a version of their standard Swede which was introduced in 1970. But the Super didn't even have a run for ten years, barely five... The company died out in the first part of the Eighties. That aside, it's a fantastic guitar, I have a couple of vintage Swedish made Hagstroms. From the reissue company, I have a heavily customized Tremar Super Swede 3 x P90-S... And I also have a hand made prototype from 2011 of the super high end (but short lived) Northen Series Super Swede made in Europe for Rossetti UK, with a full flamed maple top (no veneers) which was the line for which Johan Lundgren wound the beautiful Alnico 2 pickups for Hagstrom. That guitar is a beast. Also have a 72 HIIN OT rare hard tail, and a 1975 Viking. Both with the vintage humbuckers.

@@TheMrturn1 nice rant, but OP was surely referencing the reissue-era Hagstrom. A lot of younger players weren't aware the brand existed before that.

@@HomoChomsky dude the new Hagstrom is still partially run by the old Hagstrom family. And the guitar in the review is A REISSUE 😂😂. That's like buying a 40 year anniversary LP Firebrand and saying that reissue helped put Gibson on the map. Or a Custom Shop 62 Strat tribute really helped put fender on the map 😂😂😂. So he's young and doesn't know... you object to blanks being filled in?

Bill Rand The Northen Series has been discontinued. His guitar is Asian made. No more European made Northen line. Which is a shame. I have a Northen prototype from 2011 which was given to a British dealer to sell the idea to the retailers at musikmesse that year. It's a little more dressed up and carefully handmade than the production models, but it was made in the same Czech factory that ultimately made the line up to 2016, and it's a shame because they're extraordinary guitars. You never see a Northen Series on the market used. People know they're keepers. The build quality and the full Alnico II Lundgren pickups set are fabulous. I also have an Super from the reissue era, the triple P90 guitar. Awesome guitar and really unique. Also have to two Vintage hags, a 72 HIIN OT, and a 75 Viking. Both incredible guitars.

granted, i only had a short while with this guitar but the fretboard's feel was fine. i didn't notice any huge difference. it MIGHT have been a little more slippery than a wooden fretboard but I can't say that for 100% certainty. I can't really comment on the stability as I don't have one but it seemed like it would do well. hope that helps
@ithemba
@ithemba 4 жыл бұрын
I played a ultra swede with basically the same necks as these for 10 years now and I can say: the necks are pretty stellar. The fretboards feel and look like wood, alright. The literally only thing you realize they are this kind of compound material is that they literally don't dry or age and don't absorb oil of any kind. So cleaning them is basically just take a wet cloth and rub away the dirt. The stability of the necks is great. The profile is great. Makes me grab my Hagstrom way more often than my Gibsons.

There is no point to comment on your question until you try it for yourself. I'm a proud owner of an older model, Hgstrom D2F semi hollow with split coil on both humbuckers and... that would be it. I don't want to hear about any of those over-priced and over-rated ............... you know what I mean. Hagstrom stays in my 10 guitars stable as long as I'm alive. Period !!!

I was foolish to get excited about the resurgence of Hagstrom guitars eight or so year ago. They were (maybe still) made in China. I sent two back for neck problems, corroded strings and jack problems. The final guitar ( I still have) I gave up on. It has a cold solder and a dead pot. Have you the viewers seen any professional musicians using these guitars? No. There is a reason for it. Go elsewhere for a guitar.

Frank I bought the 3 kings super swede,everything absolutely perfect .....better than a $1200 Gibson in every respect....and yes, I do own one of those too. As for needing other guitarists to endorse a product, ive never seen the point as its all in the hands of the player. Im sorry you may have had previous problems but I would highly recommend you revisit hagstrom guitars, as mine is a real gem. Its one of 3 keepers for me, that one, my Johnny marr jaguar & my 62 ri telecaster custom
@ithemba
@ithemba 3 жыл бұрын
@@Roscoeverdin5469 ghost has their own damn signature model, you see them standing here in the video background, the fatomen. I've seen a few professional musicians in the scene around me, working musicians without the bucks to throw at Gibsons and too small for endorsements. The Super Swedes are actually quite well liked in the doom / sludge genres because of their 25,5 inch scale. I have had a hagstrom ultra swede for more than 10 years, was one of the earliest models since relauch so probably made in china, and it was allright then, for 400 bucks back then, and still has bones that kept me modifying it over the years (putting seymour duncans into it, i believe I changed a pot once...). Its my number one guitar for my band, playing live and rehearsal, recorded quite a bit too, drenched it in sweat, beer and blood. I enjoy it far more than my Gibson SG for more than triple the price because of its superior playability (and with the changed PUs: superior sound). Not to say you're experience with bad models isn't true, but thats just reality with mail ordering guitars man. The exact same stuff happens to you with Gibsons. A good music shop will sent back those faulty models to the distributor before any customer ever gets to see them but sadly, nowadays a lot of these mailorder things get shipped around to the customers - which is what ruined the reputation of Gibson f.e.

Did you mention that all Hagstroms are made in China? Guitars are discretionary purchases and I am sure there are many people who would not enjoy playing an instrument made by a communist dictatorship especially after their handling of Covid-19 that has brought so much misery to so many people. It would be like you recommend buying Hugo Boss clothing made before 1945, you would not do that now, would you?
