Kind of a trivial note: the current Block 58 at Geylang Bahru is not the same block where this tragedy occurred. The old Block 58 was a rental block that had since been demolished, while the current block was built in 1998 and reused the block number. So yeah, the crime scene no longer exists.

Having stayed near blk 58 all my life, i have heard from my mum and the neighbourhood about the stories and who's the murderer. What i heard was slightly different from Asotdaze's. Instead of drugs mentioned, the couple was actually involved in Chap ji kee and that's why they helped people buy 4D including their relative aka Uncle. When he won, the couple didn't give him the winning money. This led to the murder of the innocent kids. Either way what they did was illegal. If the couple had revealed, they would also kena caught. Btw the school that the kids attended was Bendemeer Primary school not Bendemeer Road Primary school. So many years have passed. Hope the murderer has gotten the karma. The children have rested in peace. The premise where blk 58 was is now a multi storey carpark. Dun think its haunted 😂

Rumors said that the relatives agreed for the movie adaptation hoping that it would go viral and help the investigation of the 8 year old case (as of 2024). As for Afif's case, the police has just recently closed the investigation (they were going only for around a month?), but people thinks that it's sus that police closed the case so quickly, netizens believe that the police has something to do with Afif's death. In this 1979 Geylang Bahru murder case, is very obvious that malaysian neighbour is the murderer. The circumstantial evidence is very strong. 1)The murderer knows that on 3 weekdays from Mondays to Fridays every week, an elderly woman will be along the corridor washing her hair during the early hours of morning and he chose a day that the old woman does not wash her hair along the corridor to commit the murder, this proves the murderer is a resident in that same block. 2)No forced sign of entry, hence must be someone known to the murdered children. 3)The kid's parents left the house at 6.30am and by 7.10am another neighbour came to knock the door, hence the time for the murderer to commit the murder and wash himself off the blood stains is very short, hence again proving the murderer should be someone staying in that same block. 4)A taxi driver correctly identified the malaysian neighbour with bloodstains in his clothes and a knife banging against his taxi door on the same day that the murder occurred. I think in Singapore in the 1960s and 1980s also got another 2 case whereby the murderer was charged with murder based solely on circumstantial evidence. This 1979 Geylang Bahru murder case the circumstantial evidence is very strong, hence it is very strange why that IO handling this murder case release that malaysian neighbour after the taxi-driver already correctly identified him out at the police station. My personal guess is and I want to emphasize this is my personal guess, My personal guess is why the IO release the malaysian neighbour was becos the IO himself was also a malaysian-chinese or he himself was a former malaysian-chinese that migrated to singapore and maybe he was reluctant to detain and proceed to charge the malaysian-chinese guy for murder based solely on circumstantial evidence and his thinking maybe was to release the malaysian first until if more physical evidence surface then go arrest him again. Because throughout the past forty years, I got came across some singaporean-chinese that are born in malaysia or ex-malaysians, and many of these ex-malaysians/malaysia-born singaporean-chinese are very defensive and very biased towards those malaysian-chinese that had committed evil acts or offences or crimes in singapore. The circumstantial evidence in this 1979 Geylang Bahru murder case is very strong, pointing to the malaysian neighbour as the murderer. The IO handling this case should not had released the malaysian neighbour. The IO made a mistake. The IO should had proceeded to charge the malaysian neighbour for murder based on the very strong circumstantial evidence and should not had released the malaysian. I think in Singapore there are 2 other cases in the 1980s and the 1960s whereby the murderers are charged for murder based only on circumstantial evidences only. And it was later revealed the malaysian neighbour moved out from the block and returned to malaysia.

Back then, police can be bribed quite easily. If "Uncle" was really gangster in a secret society as claimed, there would be a possibility that the police received money Mother was Malaysian... The killer, apart from being a neighbour, could potentially be a relative or 老乡too. That is another mitigating factor to not disclose or divulge the identity apart from the couple engaging in criminal activities themselves
