I was keeping old jeans for today. Can we make a small bag out of old jeans? I made a video of the whole process. I hope you enjoy watching as much as I did!

I have renewed respect for leather goods after this video. I didn’t know working with this material was so tedious, not to mention those needles looked painful to the fingertips. Artisans are, above all, masters of patience.

@@mc2782 I’m saying that it’s not sustainable to use a new piece of leather in order to utilize an old pair of jeans. I’d rather do a carpet or an apron or pillow cover from old jeans. Even shopping bag is more useful for old jeans without spending extra time energy and other expensive resources.

It is so amazing that you're sharing your patterns with us, thank you! I'm not a craftsman (yet) but I'm already seeing and appreciating the generosity there. Two questions: - at 7:28 you've already marked the line of spots to punch through, why do still use the last previous hole to align your chisels? Can't you just follow your markings? - why do you measure the thickness of your fabric? What do you use the info for? Thanks for your awesome content and in advance for your answers!
@HahnsAtelier
@HahnsAtelier 3 жыл бұрын
Hi, At first it was marked and the second it was completely pierced. Thickness is important in leather crafting. Depending on the thickness, the work is very different and the difficulty varies.
@Red80008
@Red80008 3 жыл бұрын
@@HahnsAtelier Thank you for your quick reply and your answers! I understand but it's not what I meant: - am I assuming correctly that marking your holes is just for correct and consistent distance to i.e. the edges and using the last hole to put in your chisels' first spike in is to ensure correct and consistant distance of the holes to each other? - how exactly is it different? I understand that thicker material i.e. bends differently than thinner material and affects borders and edges end such but at that point in the video, weren't you already past worrying about that? What exactly did you use the info for at that point? To i.e. choose the right yarn for your stitchings? Or to maybe make small corrections to your plan? Or was it even maybe just to double-check if all your measurements were correct? It just seemed so redundand at that time... I hope I'm not annoying you, I'm just very curious and try to understand things completely. Thanks for your time!
@sandravukovic2901
@sandravukovic2901 3 жыл бұрын
@@Red80008 I think measuring the leather is rather for us to know approximately which thickness he used if we decide to make it ourselves. Sometimes what you get in the end (the stability, for example) is very different if you use different thicknesses. Also, with thin materials you might not have to use heavy-duty threads. Using the last whole is a matter of prefference, but yes, it is there to have consistency between the last and the following hole. Although, us mere mortals would probably not see a difference in case you used just the markings and made a small mistake. It's just the feeling of being sure you nailed it without having to check. Try not to overthink the process, and try to feel it instead ;-) In the beginning you will make mistakes, but turn them into lessons and you will reach your perfection.
@gritz8927
@gritz8927 2 жыл бұрын
@@sandravukovic2901 going in the last hole when punching is usually good habit, helps you with making straight curves and such. I think that the reason why he mark the holes and then punch it, so when marking he double check if 1st and last hole have enough spacing from the edge, as when punching you can stretch or compress spacing of your holes.
