This videos are so different in pace from all other photography channels. Just informative and relaxing to watch, no bombshells and no drama. And the pictures are outer-wordly.

An alternative to look into rear filters instead of forking out a lot for the big 112mm filter option up front.

arent there dedicated filter shaped to fit rear mount of this lens? without tampering the lens ⁉

I got one for the new FE 12-24 mm F2.8 GM and my old F/4 using the Clear-Night Filter in both and the ND Filter kit. So nice not to have to carry a big filter holder and glass filter out into the night air, a great invention.

Thanks Mike for this vid. I've kind of been contemplating a rear filter for my 14-24 Z as well, but I really don't think i want to hassle with it. BTW...I got my 14-24 about 2 weeks ago, took it out to Joshua Tree the previous weekend, and holy crap! It's stellar! Will now sell my 20mm Z.

Yeah pulling the lens on and off isn’t an ideal solution. I’m going to still use them for certain situations and pair them up with the Kase 112 magnetic filters which I really like for ease of use! I’m keeping my 20 1.8 for time lapse work, but you’re right, the 14-24 is stellar!

Mike- do they make a light pollution rear filter?

do you have a way to block out the led lights

Thank you for mentioning the struggle you had with the provided screwdriver. I just received a Sigma 14-24 with the Canon EF mount and had the same issue. Very anxiety inducing, but I plan to hit the store later to grab a better set of precision screwdrivers.

Yeah I was panicking too when that happened 😂

Will this system also work on the Sigma 14-24 2.8 DG with Nikon Mount?
@Milkywaymike3 жыл бұрын
Hello, from what I can find it only looks like sony, leica and canon with the Sigma 14-24 2.8 DG lens. You have to reach out to Haida to see if the nikon mount will work with the sigma lens.

I'm wondering if this voids the Nikon warranty? Just purchased my 14-24 Z lens and it's under warranty.

Hi Mike. Great review. With a 10 stop ND do you have problems focusing? Not much light gets through to be able to see and focus where you want focus to be!

Good review. Very helpful. But if you go to the trouble of using rear filters, why not buy ND gel sheets and cut your own and use the Nikon holder? What are the pros and cons besides price and lack of durability? I'd love to have the Kase magnetic kit, but my bank account has been emptied by the 14-24mm and the z6ii.

That’s definitely an option as well. I’m just reviewing a product that was sent to me, not going over every option available with filters for the 14-24. Definitely go with the best option that works for you. Kase is great and I highly recommend saving up for them.

Thanks much for this review. Although they don't work for the original Nikon 14-24 f/2.8 I did get a set of these with the Light Pollution filter for my Sony 12-24mm G lens.

Good review. I think this is good option by avoiding those huge square filter, but like you said disadvantage of exposed sensor to environment, also causing camera movement by taking off lens and putting it together. By the way there are no option of CPL filter, so in imo those square filter have more advantage then Haida rear filters. I would simply shoot iso 64, f22 30s for water, clouds and f8 for non moving objects and blend both in Photoshop. F22 is fine for blurring water or clouds even if there is diffraction cuz there are not much sharp details in blurred surface, so in this case you wont get effect as 10 stop nd but you wont need to buy any filters :) I personally think nikon 14-30mm f4 is real winner by having 82mm filter thread, its truly unicorn of lens by being 14mm and having option of circular filter thread and being compact size

I thought we left rear filters behind long ago - not an elegant solution. The Nikon 14-24 should have had a slip in filter system like most of the Nikkor telephotos. Adding an element into the rear that wasnt there already must effect image quality...
@Milkywaymike3 жыл бұрын
Rear filters are still used with certain cameras and lenses for specific situations, but I agree they are not the most elegant solution. As far as quality goes, I did not see any loss in quality with the Haida filters as per my sharpness / color cast test at 100 and 200 percent. When pixel peeped at 300 and 400 percent the 6 and 10 stop looked a tad softer but nearly indistinguishable and easily fixed by increasing sharpness a little. Any filter (front or rear) runs the risk of degrading image sharpness, however high quality filters nowadays usually don’t or it’s not easily noticeable if they do. Rear filters aren’t for everyone so I recommend Kase magnetic filters which I also use in my 14-24. Very easy to use!

@@Milkywaymike I always believed that rear and slip in filters had to be in place. Thats why I have concerns with this rear filter system. If it replaced a piece of glass then I wouldn't be as worried about IQ...
