Alright, so this has been commented a couple of times, but I feel like the explanations that have been given are too long. Basically what happened in middle school was that Kageyama was giving his spikers tosses **he wanted** to force them to score the way he wanted. This resulted in him giving wild unspikable sets, and his teammates basically abandoning him. That traumatized him so much, that up until now, he's done the opposite by doing tosses that the **spiker wanted** (hence, the Goody Two-Shoes snide remark). So he effectively reinforced bad habits; If the spiker takes a bad approach, he compensates for it. If the spiker is being a lazy jumper (like Tsukishima often is), he compensates for it, etc. In this episode, he learned that he can compromise on both to give the spiker what **they need** to score, and that he shouldn't feel like he's not allowed to have expectations of his teammates. In essence, putting his teammates in good position to score, but trusting them to make their own decisions on how they'll score

@Mr. Quixotic I've been wanting to say this for so long, but every time I tried, it always came out super long. Thanks for doing it accurate and concisely. Hopefully they actually read this, because it's a little frustrating them continuously getting these things wrong with people commenting what's actually happening.

I also feel that one of the most underrated parts of Hinata character is his Communication skills. He is incredibly emotionally intelligent compared to the other first years and compared to kageyama. And his ability to communicate those ideas and feelings effectively. Its what makes other players mesh well with him and helps Kageyama with the team dynamic. Multiple times it Hinata leading emotionally that makes the team cohesive.

We are in season 4 and they didnt realise that Oikawa is the best in terms of getting the best out of his team. He may look a bad person, but hes really not, hes pure hard work and dedication to his team, his pride of being on Aoba Joosai says that all the time. You guys need to listen more than talk sometimes.

The art style and animation is different but purposefully done. This season also debuted on Jan 22, 2020 during the beginning of Covid so some episodes suffer since lockdowns were very strict in Japan forcing animators and others to make due with a tough situation. Some episodes will be fine, others may be a bit more noticeable like this one.

Oikawa doesn't give his team the toss they want, but it's the toss they need and the team needs. He understands and expect the spikers to reach a specific toss, thus pushing them and having them improve. Kageyama's control is amazing to the point that he can compensate for the shortcomings of his teammates, problem with that is that they'll become stagnant and at worst regress. Kageyama need to find that balance that Oikawa(and other great setters) has found, these episodes are just growing pains of that transition.

You need to rewatch the Aoba Johsai match in season 1, that perfectly shows how Oikawa is the perfect setter that brings out 100%. He sets for warm up spikes and gives every spiker different directions/encouragments. You cant go Wow Amazing to an Alfa like Iwaizumi. That motivates nothing in him. So he pokes fun at him to keep him sharp. He has a moment where Kunimi doesnt go all out for a ball. Oikawa points it out and Kunimi already starts to get Kageyama flashbacks and annoyed, but Oikawa immediately compliments and breaks down Kunimi's thought process accuratly. Same with Kindaichi. He misses the spike and gets upset (kage flashbacks) and Oikawa immediately asks what's wrong. Kindaichi is suprised and tells him how he would prefer the ball closer to him. Oikawa shows understanding but points out that he wants to try it the same way again, because he believes Kindaichi can do it and have a higher chance of scoring. Its what Kageyama is gearing towards now

16:22 It seems to me the whole point of this episode is kageyama hasn't been himself with his team and instead he overly regulated himself and in doing so fed into the bad habits of his team in order to avoid what happened in junior high from happening again. The training camp fed his hunger again due to playing with other athletes of potentially Olympic levels which prompted him to expect better from his team. This wasn't an episode about Kageyama needing to check himself but that it's okay for Kageyama to be himself, it's okay for him to expect and push for better from his teammates and Hinata's role is showcasing how that's not a bad thing and that Kageyama is not opposed to being pushed likewise.
@creativeartivity
@creativeartivity 2 жыл бұрын
8:46 He learned to tailor his spikes yes, but he was being way too accommodating to the spikers. Basically reinforcing their bad habits and not really pushing them to their limits. However, in this situation, he's being too demanding of the spikers. There's a healthy balance and that's what he's looking for.
@kelton8852

I’d go ahead and say Kageyama finds his strength in actually being very demanding cuz he learns it’s not actually a bad thing as long as he’s not yelling at his teammates. It’s the reason why he’s “The King” and why the King gets to be redefined on Karasuno

One thing people need to remember while watching this episode is that Kageyama, in junior high, earned the title of "King" by giving unconstructive criticism and impossible tasks; basically, all he use to say was "jump higher", "run faster" and "try harder". Whereas, in this episode, he at least gave advice that could be acted upon and learned from, so I never looked at it as the third installment of Lord of the Rings except in terms of his vocalization and willingness to speak up when he deems necessary.
@stevennelsonsegura5583
@stevennelsonsegura5583 2 жыл бұрын
To add....while Kageyama worded his comments badly in junior high, nobody was there to speak up to him and contest his ideas as well. They waited for the things to get out of hand and cut him off then and there. In Karasuno, Kageyama is with a balance of people that contest him, tease him, guide him, and follow him.

Haha, yeah, Kageyama was frustrated. He was playing with national level hitters who were all equally as good as him, and came back to Karasuno to a bunch of players who just weren't translating. He knew every single set he dished out for his hitters was perfect, and he knew that his hitters were taking his amazing setting for granted, as they wouldn't care about sloppy approaches or swings because they knew they had Kageyama on the team. So yeah, when he essentially gave them everything they wanted and they couldn't convert, Kageyama had had enough. So he decided "You're gonna hit the sets *I* want you to hit now, but trust me, I know what I'm doing this time. Speed isn't the answer for everyone."

Yeah and it was another good thing to point out, was that Kageyama was acting far too condescending toward his teammates and he was intimidating them. Tanaka, Noya, Asahi and Tsuki all felt it and thus couldn't perform as well. The guilt was piling up as well, since Date Tech was just pummeling them throughout their first few sets.

the first year has only been at karasuno for a few months, and kageyama has been on his road to improvement for an even shorter time. improvements do not come quickly, just as mending from horrific trauma or mastering a complex volleyball technique do. of course, he will have bumps along the way, which is totally fine and normal. as long as he is receptive to criticism, which he is! i'm not sure why you're missing this. thank goodness for suraj lmao

Sheesh the normies comments on this one tho is way off. Yes, kageyama might have been rude but it's because he was on point. He only was working on his tone. The promblem with the whole team except shoyo was they weren't stepping up at all. They're making unneccessary movements, tsukishima is lazy and isn't jumping high enough, and asahi is scared of his wits in spiking when he's the ace. It's a sports game you want to make sure everyone is on point so it was the normal thing for kageyama to get frustrated because everyone wasn't doing their best when kageyama was making the most suitable set for each player.

The "Goody Two Shoes" point was because Kageyama, ever since his teammates turned on him, he became a suck-up to each and every hitter's mistakes and adjusted the set so that their sloppiness is compensated for, yet in this match, Kageyama was getting sick of doing it since it wasn't translating to wins. Oikawa is the goody two shoes, Atsumu is the dictator. Essentially, Atsumu wanted Kageyama to find a middle ground between Oikawa's selflessness and Atsumu's selfishness to bring out his true volleyball.

It's the Fourth Season and they still don't get Oikawa. They also didn't seem to get that Hinata was awful prior to being a ball boy. Plus they showed in this episode why he was called a Goody Two Shoes, he was being too nice to his spikers when he should be pushing his spikers to hit the most optimal ball to get the point.

@@titan2k928 it's not the style. when they r low on budget the 1st thing the get rid of is different shades of shadows and hair details. we all can see that from the mono colorings and hairs and not being consistent(see the scene when hinata tells hyakuzawa that wants to defeat him how colorful it is). the next step is not being fluid movements Bcuz there is no time for correcting them. and these happens in the whole season. season 2 and 3 were good animation and woooow animations this season was ok animation and wow animation. @@mohsenmikaelian9614 Thats still not really a budget problem that’s laziness or time constriction. The budget isn’t always the problem, plenty of shows with average budget can look great if the team behind them is skilled and has enough time. Toei had some of the most inconsistent animation for One Piece, basically everything you described, but the moment they hit a specific arc, Wano, they have consistently animated the series beautifully, I’m talking over 100 episodes, and it’s simply because they assembled the best team for this arc and put in the effort. Their budget didn’t change and I wouldn’t see why Haikyuu’s would decrease. Haikyuu’s manga, before and while s4 was out, was ranking top 10, even top 7, best selling manga yearly. The dvd and blu-ray sales were fine too, there’s no reason the budget would decrease
@mohsenmikaelian9614
@mohsenmikaelian9614 2 жыл бұрын
@@titan2k928 time constrictions usually show themselves in last episodes and laziness doesnt happen normally cuz they draw a frame the director which is the same for all seasons checks it if it's not what he wants they correct it again and why would a animator do this when they know gets paid per frame and not for time they spend on working? and hiring skilled animators like u said cost more, right? so it is a budget issue. i dont know what happened that caused this but for me changing style for the sake of it doesnt make sense and i think it's more of a budget and after that time problem
@titan2k928
@titan2k928 2 жыл бұрын
@@mohsenmikaelian9614 skilled animators takes budget yes but it also takes effort, effort on the director or studio as a whole to seek that talent, and idk if you knew but s4 has a different director. These past few haikyuu reactions have really shown me that these guys either don't pay any attention at all, have terrible memory, or are just incapable of following or comprehending storylines and character developments. I have watched many haikyuu reactions, and while there are definitely bad ones, at least they don't pretend to be all intellectual and talk out of their asses like these guys do. Like I understand not being able to completely pay attention to each and every episode, but when reacting is quite literally what you do, y'all really need to learn to be better at understanding stories, plots, and not half ass every reaction looking bored, especially if you want people to watch your reactions.

@@mohsenmikaelian9614 I have considered that for a long time, I’ve been watching their reactions from the first haikyuu episode week by week. Here’s my thing, when you’re a ‘reaction channel’ that profits from fans of any shows, you should atleast do the bare minimum to do do your due diligence. Maybe not every time because that’d be impossible but atleast enough to be consistent. For me, it’s clear during these reactions that they’re just not paying attention or don’t care enough to interpret the stories or meanings. They miss clear plot points that even the most barest of reactors have been able to get and either get things completely wrong or misunderstand. The only decent one is suraj and even sometimes pat these days but that’s not enough to keep me interested anymore I’m afraid.

Although pandemic was ongoing when this aired, I dont think most of this season suffered in animation because most of the episodes were already likely finished before airing and the latter parts were at the stage of being polished. So at the very least there wasnt very obvious animation problems, it’s likely just adjusting to the artstyle. What was scuffed animation wise though was the latter half of the second cour (like a couple of episodes early in the Inarizaki match of the next season). The poorer quality was much more obvious there since everyone was already working on those episodes in pandemic conditions
