Thats how sport animes work. There are mamy boundaries they have to work within so any plot twists that would be present in other animes cant exist in this one. Therefore all good sport animes can work on two aspects alone. Characters themselves and their growth and technical elements of the sport and how to make them interesting. Thats why when you hear good sport anime you hear one of these.

Friendly volleyball player here: Since this episode was about receiving, I wanted to point out something that may seems obvious to some. Performing a simple receive a single time in volleyball isn't that impressive, consistency it's the impressive feat. That's why they didn't built too much focus on any of Hinata's receives (other that that really far away one), they focused on how much time he was able to keep returning the ball without droping it. Also, the most skilled receivers are that ones that make the strongest spike look like it was nothing, you'll notice that the show use this concept very well going foward :)

the dub is too "abridged" and changed the script so much that it only hits on comedy and falls short on the drama. Great examples are s1e8 & 9 s2e5, 7 & 8, it didnt hit me much but when i read the original translations in sub with japanese voice instead, i got the feels.

why are you sad lmao the dubs are awful, the voices don't match the characters, the tones in which they say everything is super off and overexaggerated, and the translation is super inaccurate, it's like they added whatever they wanted. if you've only ever watched haikyu dubbed, i strongly suggest you watch it with subs instead. it's far better, and you should be watching it in the language it was intended to be in. you'll get more out of it.

Honestly i dont have any problem with dubbed or subbed if the VA is good but in this case i will recommend to watch in subbed than dubbed. Those who like dubbed, well its unfortunate they are not watching Haikyuu but watching a different show, that much difference is happening when this show is going from subbed to dubbed. In dubbed its like watching different show with same video which is really annoying.

Tsukki is such an interesting character imo... I can't stand him, I talked trash about him every time he showed up on my first time watching Haikyuu, yet his arc is one of the 2 that never fail to bring me to tears.
