Critics say that the British took cognizance of his petitions and released him but that is not true because British approved the petitions of other inmates like Sachindranath Sanyal, Ulhaskar and Barin Ghosh but did not release both Savarkar brothers for 10 long years from the Andamans and even after that kept them for 3 more years in a jail at Ratnagiri and later in house arrest for next 13 years with their activities closely monitored. The British considered Savarkar more dangerous than any other freedom fighter mainly for the reason that Savarkar had the ability to inspire many revolutionaries towards violence and still remaining on the correct side of law (Bhagat Singh was caught using explosives however Savarkar was never caught using any explosive or weapons though he would secretly send weapons to India). Moreover Bhagat Singh never got the support of Congress and the bigwigs in that era as it was considered an act of violence in Congress circles as to what Bhagat Singh did. Savarkar in contrast received a lot of political support even from his opponents like Jamnadas Mehta and Gandhi too who also petitioned for his release. Nobody from the naram/garam (moderate/extremist) fraternity had any reason to oppose Savarkar's release.
