@@Prodzick I can’t tell if you’re being serious or sarcastic. If you’re genuinely asking, for both cassette and CD style Walkmans, there was a button you would press to open it. You would insert either a cassette or CD (again, depending on what style it was), and then you would close it and be able to play the music.

Maybe you had older siblings, or hand-me-downs from your parents or relatives? I was born in the middle of the 80s and grew up with MUCH different shit than many friends my age. I was the youngest of 3. And inherited a lot of toys and VHS tapes from my big brother who is 5 years older than me. I grew up on ThunderCats and Voltron the same as he did, but most of the people I’ve met that are around my age didn’t. I looked it up, and while she has an older brother, she was homeschooled from 2008-2015, and was raised in Agoura Hills, one of the nicer and richer parts of Cali that was ranked 13th best city-like suburban towns in the US to live, one of o my 3 places in Cali to earn that title… She *def* grew up on iPods alone. You both would’ve been 5 when they launched. By the time you were 8 Apple had already released 4 different versions and had sold over 10 million already. 50% of all households in her home town made more than $123k a year. It’s VERY conceivable that she never even saw a Walkman even in a movie, much less in person before

@randomguy9777 The cassette was originated in 1970's and vastly used in 1980's and 1990's, but in 1980's the compact disc were released, but vastly used in 1990's and yes in 2000's also. Walkman were used even in 2000's, because compact discs were in a boom before people started using full digital, obviously the Walkman were used less and less with the introduction of digital devices like iPods and cellphones. The cassettes and compact discs were not extinct in 2000's, with technology you can never call it " oh, those were cut that year" because it is a slow transition. The decade of 2000's saw the birth of digital devices, but the vastly use of these technologies is in the decade of 2010's. Curious, the last Walkman I saw in the streets was 3 years ago before the pandemic

It’s always bizarre that “younger” people today aren’t familiar with older technology, when access to information, and the info itself, is everywhere, and yet “older” generations have no problem recognizing or using most (not all) older tech if they run across it.

I grew up in the 80's and I wish I was able to make an entire suburban street into a time capsule or museum from that period. It's sad that we find it so hard to pass on that experience to young people as I'm sure they would love it, they would get to examine everything in every house and notice not only what was in them, but also what wasnt in them.

Typewriters. I remember for a brief second almost having to learn to use one in early elementary school but by then computers had taken over. my mother still had one, and heard an older person at the time saying it would still be useful to learn to use one. I was born in 86 btw. I must say I find it amazing how quickly technology has changed. Remember early apple computers with the colorful shells. And wanting one so bad but we had an old chunky computer. Also remember the old TV my grandmother had for the longest with the wood siding and turn knobs. And we still own a DVD player lol. It doesn't work properly now so it sits in our basement collecting dust lol

@@Leoligaur lol I think it depends. During the 90s I was still a little kid my parents didnt have much starting out so new gadgets and stuff wasnt really a big deal. It was an interesting time I can tell you that. Most times I wasn't even aware of what was actually going on around me unless through my parents and adult conversations. People were a bit more open, well atleast in the communities I grew up in. Unfortunately after 9/11 everything changed bigtime. I was just starting out my sophomore year in high school. The early 2000s was when I really noticed how rapidly new tech was coming out. It kinda feels like it was a transition phase for what we have now when i look back. We had MySpace, AOL, even Netflix when they used to mail your dvds. Also i remember how popular malls were. They were the chill spot for teens and young people. Way before social media and the early internet was nothing like how it is today. Sorry to blab some nostalgic memories are coming back lol.

There's a trick that most people who used rotary phone didn't know about. You can dial without using the rotary, but instead just by clicking on the hang up button like a Morse code. One click for number 1, two clicks for 2, so on and so forth. Give a pause between each number for it to register. The rotary actual function is flipping the button in that manner from underneath.
