@@therepublicofcynica she finds the right groove and plays what the song requires. that's what makes her a great musician. overly complex show off playing is often what people (normally male musicians lol) do when the songs aren't strong enough in their own right.
@therepublicofcynica2 жыл бұрын
@@lozzzzzzzzzzz Firstly, how do you know: are you a bass player? (I am). To be able to make such a statement you have to have some knowledge of bass playing otherwise what you’re saying is conjecture, inference, and guesswork. If you say it’s your opinion, I’d say opinion is defined as, ‘belief stronger than impression and less strong than positive knowledge’. Touché! You should say that in your view she’s a great bass player or you could say that you like her bass playing. That would be more accurate. Saying, ‘when the songs aren't strong enough in their own right’, may or may not be correct although anyone could do that if they had a rudimentary knowledge of the instrument. Bass players play the root notes of the song to the structure of the song otherwise it would sound ludicrous (accepting some forms of jazz). You can’t play along to a song written in one key and then play in another and embellish when necessary from there. She doesn’t find a ‘groove’, she follows the notes/chords written by the songwriter/s. That’s not what makes a great bass player on its own: there are many other factors. Again, whilst a competent bass player she’s not a great one. Often is defined as many times or frequently so I’ll challenge that too. If you check the ten most played songs on Spotify this week none of them has what I’d describe as complex or show off playing and none are played by women. I haven’t researched it (I will if you challenge me) but I’d suggest that the ratio of male to female bass players is something like 100:1or more so correlating that the likelihood of more complex bass playing by males would obviously predominate. Your final comment is so ridiculous and nonsensical that I can’t comment. More accurately I won’t comment on nonsense. Still, anyone with a Television song in their subscriptions is Ok with me!

I discovered HAIM about a month ago. I had heard of them before but didn't think their music would appeal to me. Yet something compelled me to watch the video clip for "The Steps," which I did, and I instantly fell in love. I watched the videos to their other new songs from WIMP III. Fell even deeper. Went back and watched videos of their older material and I just gotta say: these three are the Real Deal. In a musical landscape polluted by overproduced pop confections and profane rap and hip hop, HAIM creates true pop music: beautiful harmonies, gorgeous arrangements, and lyrics that will make you laugh, cry, and smile. The bond they share as sisters comes thru in their compositions. You can't help but be spiritually lifted by their music. WIMP III couldn't come at a better time, with Covid and racial tension brewing outside our doors. This album-as in all HAIM's music-is meant to stir the soul. It feels heaven sent. In fact, it is no stretch to say that HAIM is our hallelujah. I genuflect at their altar. Consider me a fan!
