A great business idea might be a product that cleans hair dryers. Some sort of citrus cleaner you can spray on the filter, along with a tutorial on how to remove the filter. Or even better, an entire hairdryer system that makes it easy for women to clean the filter. Some of those hairdryers can get very expensive.

Nice way to start the year! I had to chuckle thinking about if this thing could talk, "I was built in a factory, took a trip to the coast, went out once or twice and sat on a shelf for 50 years before I took a trip back to the other coast, and now I am a KZbin star."

Very nice. Re: the hair dryer, hate to say but you're getting old (so am I). Thirty years ago would be the mid-90's, not the '80s. How time flies, huh? And I remember that dryer and the switches, it is from the '80s. And the hiss...can't forget that. Happy New Year, looking forward to seeing more of you.

A Scoutcrafter video is the best way to start the new year. Thanks. BTW I'm not sure if you were joking or not about the cellophane tape, but that amber colored tape is Kapton Polyimide tape. A good tape for high heat and electric insulation. It is pricey, but perfect for certain uses like inside a hair dryer. I hope you have a great 2025!

You are right about the tape. It is a perfect use for that! 😃👍

Great New Year's Day episode! I volunteer at a non-profit thrift store and test the small appliances and don't believe I've ever seen a hair dryer that didn't work. They're pretty bulletproof. I'm also a lantern collector and have three of the Bernzomatic Dual Beam lanterns, one is painted Olive green and was made for Sears. Otherwise, I'm an old school Coleman collector and love the white gas pressure lanterns. I am also looking forward to this new year and wish you the very best. Thank you for another great year's worth of education, entertainment, travel and wisdom.

My Grandfather would go Ice Fishing. He made a heater to keep warm on the ice. He took a study apple box and drilled one inch holes in the end you would sit on. Across the opening nailed a four inch board. It helped stabilize the box. He stood a Coleman lantern inside the box. After we cut a hole in the ice for fishing he would light the lantern and put it in the box. The heat from the lantern helped warm your butt. You hold your hands down below your knees to warm them. Makes for a great heater to be warm while fishing. I still have the box he made for me. He also made a box two ft x three ft and mounted a pair of old wooden kiddy size skis for runners to carry our stuff. Good old days with Gramps.

Happy New Year John! You have the coolest s*^t in the world! We had camping fuel in boy scouts in Missouri when I was a kid and one idiot poured it on the fire one nite and the flame jumped up the stream and lit the gallon can on fire, so he took off running with it in his hand and the scout masters were screaming to drop it and he finally threw it and lit the field we were in on fire. What a nite and a powerful lesson I learned for life. Dont run with a lit can, drop it in the fire and let it explode while you run away. Ha just think if he did that. p.s. I had that same conair dryer you have.

Happy new year. The hair dryer insulation I have seen is mica and yours may be the same. Could be man made now but in the old days it was the rock form. In stage coach windows it was called isenglass. That protection plug is interesting in that there is no ground prong that I saw. Must be AFCI or monitors difference in current between hot and neutral. Loved the old mantle lanterns. The really bright ones were thoriated so slightly radioactive. When I worked in nuclear power they were used for training to detect low level radiation with a frisker. Which is a meter used in the industry. Great video and thanks for keeping the content so interresting.

Yes that insulation material is very interesting because it is super thin and light yet showed absolutely no discoloration or heat damage whatsoever! I will research it more. 😃👍

Another die-hard viewer here. Great episode. Was interested to see the gummed up filter on the hair dryer. I remember during the sixties how much of that stuff was used by the high school girls on their beehive hair dos. I use my heat gun in the shop for a lot of things but most often to shrink up the insulating heat shrink tubing for fixing cords and insulating pliers handles. Lotta memories regarding the propane lanterns too. Happy New Year to you and all the folks here.
