I’m loving the shorter, maximum curly style! I also like the sleeker shape, too. If you were able to have the shortening and layering done correctly, I bet you can do either one, depending on how you feel on any given day! You do have beautiful, expressive dark eyes and great cheekbones, and with your new style, I hope they really stand out! If you feel more confident, I hope you can focus on all the positives you bring to the world, starting with your open, friendly expression that just drew me in with your very first photo!

Melissa, you deserve to feel good about yourself inside and out. From an outsider's view, you have beautiful dark, kind eyes and they work so well with your rich dark hair colour. Know that no matter what physical changes that your body has been through, that you are loved and deserving of it. You are worth taking care of! And when you start really loving yourself (and a good start is self-care) your physical self will respond with better health and you will be drawn to habits that support that.

Hi Melissa! I also went from a size 2 to an 18/20 due to hysterectomy and 10 other surgeries over a 10 year period. No one tells you about all of the side effects. I have since taken control of my life and my look and gone bold and silver. I'm 55, have naturally curly, brown and silver, and I cut 15" off and am letting the silvers go silver!! You would also look fabulous with a shorter cut and gray. Stop the madness of coloring! I was coloring every 6 weeks with auburn. I just said I'm done and since then, been growing it. It's shaved on one side and longer all over and it's short! Something i said I Wouldn't NEVER do. Never would I have thought that silver hair would be something I would embrace, lol , but I did. I had the same style you have, the long hair, thick, oval face.... me. I looked on pinterest and found a cut that was bold and brave. I was tired of looking like a mom. All of that being said, take it as an inspiration. You have total control over your body and hair. Don't beat yourself up for gaining weight. Just change your habits, add water and less carbs, and protein. I did an Atkins and also I did a Medifast program to lose more than 100 lbs. I used Optavia, but it's just a suggestion. You look beautiful no matter what you choose to do with your hair. You ARE worthy!!! And important!! I wish you luck and happiness!! If you want to friend me on fb, feel free and i can tell you more, should you like. But, my hair is like yours, curly, wavy, but now it's shorter. I love it!! Best wishes and hope you picked up some great tips!! 👍 🙂🙃🙂🙃🙂

@@leeannechiles6810 Silver hair is fine unless you are like me and the "grays" are wiry and brassy, like old pubic hair. Then, you are forced to stay on the color tread mill until you run out of normal hair. Fortunately, for the time being, I've only got a few wiry pubic hairs on my head.....😄

I grew up with a Mom who's treasured each & every grey hair as a badge of honor, & in her 80s she's still got a more than 50/50 black hair/grey ratio... LOL! So when mine started getting Li'l shoots of grey in my 40s, I just adopted the same attitude & I don't regret it at all. It probably helped that my hair dresser said I could pick between the perm for curls or color, & of course I choose the curls with volume & that wash & go ease. Love the tips & advice~ Thanks for sharing!

Hi Melissa! I am a 62 year old woman and I decided to stop coloring my hair a year ago. I didn't approach the adventure as "giving up," rather I wanted a new experience! The decision to not color my hair anymore made me feel in control and not society. Meaning I wasn't going to let others tell me gray hair makes you look old. I love my hair and the different variations of browns and gray. As Justin stated ... you have to do YOU and what YOU are confident in doing. You are a beautiful woman and I think Justin's suggestions would look awesome on you! Take each day as a step towards who YOU want to be. You've got this!

Melissa, so many of us relate. I gained a lot of weight during menopause and it was a true bummer. I didn’t feel pretty anymore and sucked into the idea it was inevitable. So I decided to just roll with it and stopped coloring my hair. I wanted to embrace the gray trend but was disappointed it wasn’t more gray. Lol. Consequently the shade just looked dull and made me look even more frumpy. After 5 years of not liking it, I introduced low and highlights and love it! I grew my hair from a short style to a youthful bob. And I stopped worrying about my weight, bought clothes that flattered my frame, upped my skin care routine and always wear lipstick even if I wear no other makeup…it livens my face. The reduced stress by not worrying about my size helped me lose some weight naturally which motivates me to eat nutritiously 80% of the time, but not deny myself a little fun the other 20%. I will never be super thin again and I am okay with that. At age 64, I feel and look better than I did 10 years ago. My motto: Focus on things in your control and continuously make little adjustments that make you happy. Justin’s hair suggestion both curly and straight will look amazing on you and bring out your beautiful eyes!
@dtraveler3080 Жыл бұрын
Just to add, if you ever do decide that you don’t like what you weigh, please try this: try not to eat just after 6 or 7 pm( depending on when you eat breakfast) eat in an 8 hour window. Exercise 30 minutes, just 4 times a week. It is that fourth day that allows you to lose some weight.🎉 Good luck to you in the future. A darker brown powder will cover roots.

Melissa, I feel everything you said in your email. I struggle with all the same things you do. I turn 51 this year. I went gray during the COVID shut downs of 2020 and I'm glad I did most days. My hair in healthy and fuller now and I have saved a ton of money. I strive to accept that although my body is not as young looking as I'd hope, I have lived a well lived life. I have stretch marks and all the markings of a woman who has bore children and loved her family. I have laugh lines, because I have lived, loved, and laughed. On my best days, this is enough. Best wishes.

As I am only reading this several months later, it is heart warming to see the encouragement and support that Melissa received. It takes courage to put yourself out there. Women too often feel bad about how they look, and struggle with health issues that cause them to feel even worse about themselves. However, when we learn to love ourselves and see our worth, we are able to find and use simple ideas and tools like meditation, or as Justin demonstrates, hairstyles that flatter our faces, make us look more youthful, but more importantly, make us feel youthful and good about ourselves. I am so grateful to have found him on KZbin.

Melissa I really admire your ability to open yourself up and put yourself out there. One thing I’ve found about color: I let my hair go grey but thought it was too boring so now I get cool toned highlights a few times a year and it’s soooo much easier and cheaper than all the coloring I used to do. What I guess I’m saying is that color doesn’t have to an all-or-nothing proposition. 💜

It’s been a whole new mindset. One thing I’ve learned is that if I don’t love myself and take care of myself, who else will. It also helps you to look at the beauty in others and TELL them. So many times I’ve not realized how important that is. Tell others if you see something remarkable in them. Kindness costs nothing and is sooooo rewarding. It will be returned to you. Enjoy your life. Take time for yourself. Big hugs! 😊❤

Thank you Melissa for putting yourself out there for everyone to see and being so courageous in telling us how you feel in your email. I can tell you I have been fat shamed 3/4 of my life. I can definitely relate to the weight gain and the struggles with that alone! Justin will give you great advice....how do I know? Because I binged watched his videos. Like you I was at a low point with my feeling pretty because of thinning hair (I'm 54 with baby fine hair) my hair is board straight and thinning on the top. My hair length and shape was similar to yours but thinner. I watched Justin's videos and decided to take his advice. I moved my part from the center and had more layering done. Against my own personal preference of keeping the longer hair i went ahead and got some length cut off because my face looked longer and droopy. I have rarely if ever colored my hair. I had gray hair all over and my natural hair color looked dirty and awful really. I used Justin's suggestions from his videos and got my hair cut in more layers and alittle shorter, moved my part and had my hair colored all over. I have received compliments like crazy on the style/color and told the look suits me well. I feel more confident and look younger. My spirits have been lifted for sure! Keep smiling and don't be afraid of change because once you do it you will love it and your confidence will soar!

We can’t always avoid health problems and their effect on us, but we are so much more than the sum of that! I am telling you this as someone who has really gone through some very intense life threatening and life changing problems that also greatly impacted my appearance. I learned that on so many levels “appearance” is not just how we look, but really how we ARE to ourselves and others in our life. You ARE lovely and that shows through, even if it is hard for you to feel it or see it sometimes. Please take time everyday to appreciate yourself and remind yourself of how wonderful you really are. ❤

I love your hair color and I too struggle with the same issue of texture and graying. I'm letting my hair go gray. But I love your color and if I decide to do color again, I would like it to be exactly your color! Remember you are Beautiful and you have strength and courage to let that beauty shine through.

Melissa, I see so much kindness in your eyes AND enthusiasm as well!! Girl, you wrote Justin a letter for ideas/help, that shows me that you have some energy and hope too!! I believe that because you have hope in your heart, then you can do things to keep growing your enthusiasm and hope, then put your mind to it to dig out of this rut and circumstances that you spoke about in your letter to Justin. Each step is another one!! I think reaching out to the people in your life who love, challenge, and encourage you to be your best self would be helpful too. It may be challenging, but I think you have what it takes to keep showing up and fighting the good fight!! May God bless you in all you do! Keep growing hope and keep going!!😁🙏🤜🤛💪🖐🙌👊💗

Melissa, You should be proud of yourself for reaching out to ask for advice- and I thank you, because my hair is very similar! I feel disheartened by my hair too. Health issues and the resulting weight gain is an doozie to deal with. When you look in the mirror don’t forget to see “you” not just your hair or a few lbs. staring back at you. You have a warm, welcoming, beautiful face. I love the soft, subtle highlights Justin added at the end on you!

Hi Melissa I just broke off a 5 yr relationship listening to hear him say I am imperfect. I know no one is perfect including me too and that that’s okay. I have gone through two divorces with similar men too. What I am now as a result of all the past experiences is a mother of two amazing boys 23 who is becoming a doctor and 12 a smarty pants too! They are very happy and I am too. I have also become a dog foster parent and a great dancer! Learnt tango, swings, Latin and more. Life has kept me going even to the gym (I am not slim but I am strong) and you will definitely find that too! Because of all these dancing and performing I have also learnt to look and feel better. Salon nail spa home routines etc! Girl you got it so flaunt it ❤love yourself ❤thanks for this channel I was looking to spice up my curls for tonight’s dance!

So glad she shared this and although it might feel vulnerable, many women experience this. The ideas provided looked lovely and actually made her look more youthful and bright. I let my own hair go salt and pepper using argon and rosemary mint oils to calm the texture and any frizz from wave. I noticed the side bang was below the cheekbone which happens when growing out. I wisp mine up and away to create balance before my next trim. I sincerely hope she feels as pretty as she looks. It's difficult to see yourself compared to past. She needs to embrace her beauty and push for medical attention for her bone quality, liver and heart. After surgery, I returned dramatically to a midline of myself I felt better for but took 16 years instead of the average 10 to get. Thanks for sharing your fantastic ideas and lifting her up. Well deserved. ❤

Justin. You are so right about the gray hair situation. I get tired of coloring it but then it reaches a point where the gray depresses me and makes me feel old. It doesn’t happen all the time but I give it a try and then realize I’m not ready for gray and color it again. Someday maybe. Maybe… Thanks for your great advice and your kindness.

Hi Melissa, I too have been in a similar situation and put on some weight and I know what it's like to not feel beautiful anymore or not tip feel like yourself. Once I stopped focusing on trying to look like I once did and started becoming the new me, buying myself new clothes for my new body and focusing on doing pilates I started feeling beautiful again and now although I'm not as thin as I use to be I feel more beautiful than I ever did. I'm sending you love and prayers. You've got this! Try not to focus on weight and just focus on being the best version of yourself at any size.

Melissa is a beautiful lady who, because of physical changes, seems a bit lost. When I had a 25% weight gain just after menopause I couldn’t adjust until finding styles that suited my new shape. Far better to forget the styles that used to suit and start over trying everything new until a new style is discovered that both flatters and feels right. Melissa’s hair is lovely and the straighter style you showed looked amazing! I fully understand what you say about when to go grey but would add that a good way to dip your toe in the water is to have highlights and lowlights professionally done - that’s also a lot less maintenance than a full colour as roots don’t show so should be affordable at the salon with not needing to be done very often. I’m positive that when Melissa learns to dress her new figure and successfully restyles her hair she’ll regain her self confidence and be really happy with herself again. Go for it Melissa! Liz (Isle of Man). 🤗

Loved all the hair styles suggested here. I was a brunette when I was younger and than as I grew older and started to get frustrated with the white hair and trying to keep those roots covered, I decided to do a 180° change. I now have gone lighter with my hair. At first it was putting in the blonder high lights so the white hair wasn't so prominent as my hair grew, making it less noticeable. Than as the white continued, I increased the amount of light hair. That made it so that my friends and family didn't see a drastic changh overnight. Now I am a very active 75 year old with light blond hair instead of going all white, which might not be bad, but I am happy with my look.

Hi Melissa, I'm a 48 year woman struggling with health problems too. My weight has climbed close to 200 pounds in the last 10 years and I've tried a LOT to try to loose it. I don't feel very pretty any more either. I'm a 6 foot tall woman and I used to weigh about 140, which is great for 6 feet. Now I'm over 300 and feeling pretty or feminine when you can't get clothes that fit is very hard. Luckily, my self-worth and self-esteem are not reliant on my weight! You need to look beyond the mirror to see what is special, unique and beautiful about yourself. Are you a mother? An artist? A hard worker? Do you have strong ethics? Are you a good friend? Are you funny, brave, intelligent, strong, resourceful, gracious, giving, thoughtful, enthusiastic, passionate, inquisitive, diligent and loyal? What positive words apply best to you? Because I'm sure there's a lot more you have to offer the world than just what a mirror would tell you. It's important to feel good about the way you look, but don't forget how much more important you are than just your appearance. You are beautiful, inside and out. And, you are worthy.

I notice the openness in your eyes Melissa. Not that they’re open wider or anything, but that you see the truth of whatever, whoever is before you. And that, in my experience signifies the possessor of an open heart, loving, warm, embracing and full...it’s a rare gift Dear, one that I’m sure those around you cherish dearly...

Melissa, your story was my story as well. I am 63 with hypo , curly hair, dyed, way more curvy than I'd like. I grew out my hair during covid but in the long run (after 2 years) I went back to a lighter hair color so that I didn't have to dye it as often. I still do it at home with a service that delivers. My grey hair was actually more work than a six week touch up. My hair is curly but I found (as suggested) that I look better with it straighter. To baby my hair, I dry it after it is 80% dry. Holds for days and is easier to pull up as well. I am working on making better food choices and my dog loves the extra long walks. I added putting on make up every day and emphasizing my eyes which makes me feel better. Take care of yourself physically, mentally and emotionally and all together you will feel better. Baby steps. Know you are not alone. Your story is the same one that so many go through. Better days are ahead.

Melissa, what can I say. I know what you mean and how you feel, but you know you have so much going for you as your glass is half full!. You are on the right side of your health problems and will be able to plan the next few months, even the next year so at the end of it you will have direction and feel so much better 🙂. Your hair is going grey, so what! Decide are you going to work with it or continue to put in colours... I am the same, thinking 'oh no look what is happening ' but then I started listening, not just to my family (whose job it is to make me feel better 🤣) but friends and even people sat in the salon who passed comment on my colour and how it is blending in nice with my original brown and where the sun had naturally streaked it... So I listened and I looked in the mirror and saw what the saw... and like you I had no wrinkles, I had a nice smile and I started feeling younger and well 'me'! But one important point I have to mention to you, OMG your hair is gorgeous! It is thick, plenty of it whereas mine is thin and very fine.... you luck lucky person 😀. So listen to what suggestions Justin comes up with (I haven't watched the video yet) .. them look in the mirror and have a play until you decide what you want but don't forget if it is wrong at first it may grow on you, but if not it will just grow 🤣 Take care and enjoy each day xx Sue, Wales, UK

Melissa, people see you as more attractive than you do. When you look in the mirror, all you see is your appearance. When others look at you they see something different such as personality, kindness, intelligence, and sense of humor. All these factors make up a part of a person's overall beauty. Hope you can learn to own it. Based on your photos, you look lovely inside and out.

You are gorgeous Melissa!!! I love your hair and think the length with curls is so pretty! Get that diffuser out and scrunch away! I have a couple fun tasks to suggest you do daily. When you wake up, take 2 minutes to think about what you are grateful for. If you can, write them down in a journal you keep by the bed. During the day take the time to send an email, text, or call someone and tell them how much you love and appreciate them and/or share a fun memory you have of them! Last, at the end of the day before you fall asleep take 2 minutes to think back to your day, what was great about it and where could you improve. Think about what you are grateful for and then get yourself a good nights rest. I promise after a few days/ weeks of doing this your life will be so fulfilled and the beauty we all see on the outside will shine even brighter from you on the inside! Happy 2023! Thank you Justin for asking us to do this. Positivity breeds positivity! You are a gem and regardless of what you say I will always listen to your amazing worlds of wisdom! 😊
