First of all I really appreciate you for showing a different perspective on how to care for one’s hair. It is up to us viewers to take or leave it. My story: There was a time when I could not get an appointment to see a stylist because (1) none were accepting new clients, (2) charged extra for my hair texture, or (3) decided to retire. I needed to remove the co-dependency of working with stylist of a specific training and step outside of the box in order to be responsible for my self care. Videos like yours and virtual sessions (shout out to CiCiLove Curls!), helped me step outside a box I had put myself in. Second, I am a fellow fit chick. To be specific, I am on a stand up paddle board racing team. That means I must wash off that lake water (co-wash, rinse, whatever is needed to take off Lake Michigan goose poop, dead fish, gasoline, and other things best left unmentioned). While I do not wash/co-wash daily (due to time constraints in my life) I do wash 2 - 3 times per week. Finally, while I love the different perspectives and even the healthy disagreements, I am not a fan when the comments shift to straight up cyberbullying. Keep doing you, my fellow fitness lady and curl friend!

She really knows what she's talking about!!!You must use a leave-in to lock the moisture no matter what style you do. Like she said water hydrates but only for so long. The leave-in conditioner helps keep the water in longer so that's awesome. I'm halfway through the video so I'm going to watch the rest but I'm so glad that she encourages you to use leave-in conditioners 😊😊😊😊

I'm glad you had a great salon experience. It's always good when it works out that way. It's very sad seeing so many people having bad salon experiences. I'm not a salon girl, but it's just because I really enjoy caring for my own hair and I don't enjoy having my hair done by other people. Also, there is nothing wrong with having a consultation without getting a service if a stylist offers them. I've learned a lot by doing that. Professional products are great I love them as well. I don't use a steamer, but I see nothing wrong with them. Ironically, what she was saying about oils and butter being properly formulated in products is the same as what BGC is saying. The products that I have tried from their list all have oil and/or butter in the formulation. It is good to get info from several professionals because they don't all say the same thing or they say the same thing in a different way. Whether I use a leave-in depends on the styler. If I use a new styler I'll try it without leave-in first. Depending on how my hair feels after a few days I will decide if I need to use a leave-in with that styler going forward.

Yes, I agree. It is sad to see people having bad salon experiences. And yes, I know what she was saying was akin to what I am black girl Curls says. I was making the connection that they were in agreement on that basically. I agree it is good to get it info from several professionals especially if they’re saying is similar it’s as if it’s helping solidify the concept. Thanks for sharing your process for implementing a leave-in product.

Get a steamer if you’re able to Brittany…My natural 4C gray hair has definitely benefited from using my steamer at least twice a month. I wear my hair short on the top with shaven sides. Whenever I use a moisturizing deep conditioner with my steamer I can’t help but notice the shine of health emanating from my platinum crown. Even my facial skin feels better after being underneath the steamer. Keep doing good work with your hair videos Brittany. I have a steamer and it’s very useful. I like it a lot. it’s not the same as putting a cap. For hydration I use steamer. Certain treatments I use both steamer and drying for hydration and shrink the product into my hair. I do that with my leave ins with a shower cap on I can’t explain it but it always makes product “disappear” and leave my hair soft even if i apply it in the shower.

The salon content is some of my favorite of your channel. It's nice to get a look in at other salons and see someone else's expertise. I know the shape is gone now based on your most recent salon video, but this was a really nice cut as well. I do have my own stylist and she's great, but there are certain things she doesn't know about recent trends because she's more old fashioned, I just have a hard time trusting other stylists in my area because my scalp is so sensitive. People can be so rough when they see my texture. My stylist is the first person who ever aside from myself who's not rough, but i'd love to try someone with good marks that I wouldnt have to travel to far for. I'm glad Stylist Tippi has confirmed some of my feelings about no oils and no butters. Although something I wonder about is does products marketed as hair oils (like say Wild growth oil or mielle's rosemary hair oil) count as raw oils, or are they considered formulated for hair

No, you didn’t hear the conversation wrong. It’s just that I used that clip of her comment to spark discussion to further explain a few things. Love the hair cut and as usual the informative details with your experience. I totally agree with you, use what you want for your hair. Especially when you like your results. I notice I prefer some leave ins with certain gels. I also prefer air drying. I just like the results better. Most argue it looks better under the dryer. Again depending on what products I use I don’t like the dryer results. But we have to do what makes us happy and what results we like. Thanks for sharing 😊

Guys, she is not prescribing a recipe for everyone's hair. In fact, she states several times that one should do what works for one's hair. For me, I can't use a leave-in when I do wash-n-gos because it make my hair less defined. However, when I do twist outs, I love a leave-in. Do what works for you; it's only hair.

Hello, Brittany!! I have been mourning my (perceived) plight of being in an area with NO curly hair stylist. After watching this vlog, I decided to search for the salon where you got your fabulous trim and I “think” I may have found it!!!!!! And it’s in my metro area!!! I did my big chop after 6 months of transitioning from relaxer so I’m coming up on 1 year post big chop the 1st of July. I have to wait until Tuesday to speak to someone at Hair Love KC bec they are closed on Monday’s. But, I am SUPER EXCITED at the prospect that I may FINALLY be able to get my coils and curls trimmed by someone who knows what to do with a head of thick natural hair (4A-3B). Thank you so much for sharing the location of the salon!!!! BTW - I am thrilled that you must live somewhere in this 2-state area. It’s nice to know that I’m not alone!!!! 🥰

Absolutely love this mask and have been using it for almost 3 years now. As for steaming my hair, I've been steaming my hair for at least 8 years. Several years ago, I got highlights....a LOT of blond highlights and purchased my first steamer in preparation for caring for my then color treated hair. Fast forward as I've since completely grown out and cut off all the highlights, I currently steam my hair twice a month with a moisturizing treatment or my Olaplex 4-in-1 which is moisture with some bond treatment benefits. I don't use steam with my protein treatments; for those I sit under my hooded dryer. Steaming definitely takes your DC treatments to the next level, highly recommend it.

Wow. That's a wild statement for her to say water will leave your hair dry. And oils and butter hydrates the hair ? 🤔 i'm glad you cut the voice over on bc those statement on their face 😬 Water *is* hydration. A lot of good products have have a combination of humectants and emollients to attract more water in the hair and to add softeness + shine, respectively. I think it would just be eaiser for a stylist like her to extol the benefit of lotion/cream leave ins like adding weight or "bulk" to the hair. Because a lotion/cream itself isn't going to keep the hair hydrated longer, or hydrate the hair. But most importantly you like the cut! I can see more volume on top now. I'm at a similar length after a biggg cut in November and it's hard to not be flat on the top, esp if you are also trying to grow it out
@BrittanyMia
@BrittanyMia Жыл бұрын
It was that water alone will leave the hair dry without anything to seal it in. I understand haha I had to clarify because there was a lot being said that wasn’t shared. Yes for sure, water is hydration and there is no denying that fact. I agree. She was stating that we need water but alone water can leave the hair dried out without a good product to keep and attract more water. It is hard for it not to be flat on top. Hopefully as it grows out I find a way to maintain that volume. Thank you for respectful sharing this information!

Well this video disappointed me & I don't think I've said that b4 in all my yrs of watching hair videos. I've been natural for 9+ yrs now & I had to cut 20+inches last yr, started my journey over. This 2nd go round I've been blessed w/ finding a curly stylist that follows the black girls curls techniques & guidance, it's a way of life for me now and I don't go 3 days without someone stopping me asking me exactly what I'm doing to have beautiful lasting w&g, it's been humbling & very touching real talk. As soon as you mentioned the celebrities hair she's done I was done lol, those women hide behind wigs & braids 95%, then this woman says "water can be drying for your hair, I just smh in disgust. Yes we all have our own preferences but dang if it's not broken then why fix it. I hope you enjoy exploring your hair for yrs to come with all of the frequent products you're trying, etc. It's not my path at all though, I've lived through the days of hair confusion & being a product junky, no more. I watch hair videos of those that follow the same hair pricipals, products & it's simple. The idea of even relying on mousse as a styler for w&g without a topper mousse is unreal. Going back to cowaah, unreal, just uh uh. Sending love & blessings your way always lady, I'll look up your channel again to see how you're doing later on this yr.

@Kimla O'Connor me too & overall the convo / comment of "we're trying to help you all/ give guidance" irked my soul. The big factor behind why so many of us have had jacked up hair was by listening to our fave yt influencers who are trying to figure things out just like us. It was a mess
@bklynbutters13
@bklynbutters13 Жыл бұрын
@@kimlaoconnor1 She didn't say it in this video, but in a previous video she said the reason she cowashes so often is because she goes to the gym every day and sweats at her roots a lot. And since she's currently doing mousse wash n gos, the sweat takes away the mousse's hold and definition at the roots and her roots get dull & puffy and also her scalp gets uncomfortable from all the sweat. So she cowashes in between wash days in order to remove the daily sweat residue and also to be able to reset her style from wet hair. I doubt she'd be cowashing this much if she were doing gel wash n gos since they have a lot more hold than mousse wash n gos and can withstand a sweaty scalp. She'd probably be using scalp refresher sprays instead.

The comment that you’re addressing about giving guidance was what a stylist told me not what I was telling you that I was doing as an influencer. ( my stylist was saying that THEY are there to guide us as we discover our hair, I’m not here to guide anybody I’m here to do my hair and learn an experiment and I’m sharing that ) You’ve been around my channel and have commented before so it’s interesting that you haven’t picked up that I’m experimenting. It’s actually disappointing. People use mousse as a one and done all the time. And people still cowash successfully. As I said, I was on a cowashing kick and again I’m experimenting and I’m on a journey with my hair. You are clearly already where you need to be and that’s perfectly OK, watch influencers who are doing exactly what you are doing. It’s clear that you missed the entire conversation in the video and the point that I was making about learning and doing what’s working for you which has made this one of the most disappointing comments I’ve ever read so it look like we’re both disappointed. I wish you well.

@Brittany Mia one of the hardest things I've learned to grow/evolve to is not caring so much about being misunderstood (whether it happens intentionally...... or unintentionally). Humans stay humaning. Context matters and humans (all of us) ALWAYS see through our own perspectives. Always. Those who continue to grow understand and accept this and constantly evaluate their own perceptions, beliefs, & misperceptions. The only thing that diminishes the greatness and value of this video, your experience (that you chose to share with us), and the joy you had/have in it all is what you allow to. Next. ❤

great video. I think her methods are pretty much the same with BGC. No RAW oils and she styled your hair wet just chose a different styler : cream instead of gel, but she used mousse which they use too. she still says styler to hold water for a period of time, till the next wash, which is again same as BGC would say. my opinion though, your curls in your wash and go series look juicer and nicer than the finished result here.
@BrittanyMia

Exactly. Her methods are literally so similar but it’s her delivery and how she’s saying it that differs from BGC. Yeah, it’s still essentially the same. Thanks for sharing your pov.

I do have a steamer. My stylist would always use when I went and I like the results. I only use once or twice a month. I feel like it's worth it..put some essential oil in there and just relax🧘🏾‍♀️. What was the name of that loreal gel/foam. I might have to try. If it's similar to the Verb I told you about, I love it. Until next time peace & blessing💜

She didn’t use as much as I would’ve so I can’t really compare, but it’s up there with the Mielle in terms of hold and definition. Even with the amount that she used, it had great definition and great hold.

Cute results. Funny enough black girl curls has never said, that water is the only thing we should use. The philosophy is that water is the base. Your products should be water soluble. And you should choose the correct cleanser, for the amount of buildup you have. Then choosing the correct conditioner to follow. Then the emollients, conditioning agents, and humectants of your conditioner and base stylers, keep the water in. Then finally, the amount of hold you set your hair with, locks all of that in! The goal is to get you away from the 12 step routines, and get you to the root of hair care, and its simplicity. Unless you truly do your research, and read their manuals... you'll only have snippets of the information!
@BrittanyMia
@BrittanyMia Жыл бұрын
I’ve done the research, and I’ve read their manuals. I don’t recall at any point in the video where I said that Black Girl Curls said water is all you need. We were talking about hydration and moisture, so this is not in any way a statement to debunk what they are saying. As I’ve said many times in the video, this is showing the differences in opinion, and showing that there are different ways to achieve a style. This is to show that there is nuance in the wash and go lifestyle. I’ve been in See some curls and I’ve learned from them as well. They have valuable information, and so do a lot of different stylists.
