Hair Tutorial: A Quick, Easy and Messy Updo for Curly Hair

I typically do this kind of hairstyle on Day 2 of my hair being curly :) I only showed it from beginning to end so there wasn't any confusion, but yes, Day 2 is my day for this usually. Which REALLY makes it a 3 minute hair-do! ;)

Hi! Yes, it is naturally wavy and doing that does help to make it much more curly. There were a few ladies further down the comments who have hair like yours that tried this technique and it did make their hair more wavy, so it's worth a try! I don't think it'd be as curly, but I believe it would add great volume to your hair. :) Thanks for asking!

Not only do I envy your hair incredibly, I also really envy the fact that you can wear your hair in a ponytail without getting a headache. It takes all of about 15 minutes for me. Not being able to wear my hair up without pain has really limited my hairstyles.

Love your videos and approach! I kept trying this hairstyle and I kept over pinning. (I just couldn't help myself:). But I figured out an even easier way to do this hairstyle (for me). After making a pony tail, smoosh all the hair against the back of the head, just the same as you did, then use a round claw clip to clip it all over the pony tail. Then adjust the style by pulling out pieces to make it bigger and cover the clip...you can make it as messy looking as you want to and it has the same great result as your style. You can pull out the pieces of hair partially or completely to achieve the shape you want. I wouldn't have thought of this without your great ideas and fantastic instructions.

I have curly hair as well and have always been told to never use a towel when scrunching and drying. I always just use a tshirt. It really helps keep mine from frizzing. Maybe try it and see if you can tell a difference. :)

Wonderful Style and How-To techniques!!! My hair tends to be wavy most of the time...but certainly curlier if it's summer/humid. I think I could do this if I sleep in a damp french braid...then do your towel/scrunching technique in the AM....or maybe curl the hair before styling. Just gorgeous....and pretty easy to do!!!! DO NOT USE A TOWEL...it will frizz your hair like crazy!!!! It works so much better if you do all of that but instead of using a towel use a soft T-shirt it will work so much better I GUARENTEE YOU that's what I do when I get out of the shower too, just trust me on this one
