Maybe because brushes can pull on individual hairs more causing potential pain even when done gently while grabbing a fistful of hair to tie up provides more surface area of pulling and thus less pain on the scalp even when pulled harder.

Hopefully Dad's the best!😊👍 Brushing or combing a child's hair is way more painful than making a hairdo though. The secret to combing or brushing hair is to use hair conditioner to make it easier to untangle. It's a must especially for long hair!

@@JaneDoe-ci3gj I have thick, curly, pretty frizzy hair. When I was young, it went down my back, and I grew up on a lake (gunked it up). I love these videos but this might be my fave. My ex-husband learned how to do our daughter's hair from youtube tutorials and tutorials with me. I had to learn from youtube myself as I'm black American and my daughter's dad is white Scottish. Her hair isn't like either of ours. He's learned protective styles and how to buy the right products to moisturise her hair. No reason a Dad can't do this. I was no more a natural than he was.
