💈 Traditional Hot Towel Shave At Lyle's Barber Shop | Portland, Oregon

Brian Burt of Lyle’s Barber Shop in Portland, Oregon, gives a traditional hot towel shave. The hot towels help to relax, cleanse, and soften the skin and hair follicle. A conditioning shave cream is applied to soften and hydrate the skin. Followed by a hot towel and pre shave formula to prep the skin and soften the facial hair for a smooth close shave. Another hot towel helps get all the lotions to sink into the skin.
The shave is topped off with a refreshing splash of aftershave and moisturizing lotion.
So happy to experience one of Brian's relaxing and close shaves which is also considered a mini facial with all the hot steaming towels and lotions.
Lyle’s Barber Shop, tucked away in Portland's North Tabor neighborhood, has been open for three years yet has the look and feel of an old-style community barbershop from the 1960s. With Lyle’s Barber Shop, Brian shares his love and appreciation of traditional barbershops that goes back years before he trained to become a barber. Brian told us, “I hold barbering in a very high regard. I take my trade very seriously.”⁠
Brian said Portland didn’t really have many traditional barbershops. So he opened Lyle’s Barber Shop which is named after his grandfather who always dressed impeccably and gave Brian a lot of life lessons. This was Brian’s way of paying homage to his grandfather who was “just a great human being.”
The thing Brian likes the most about barbering is the connection he makes with each client and barber he works with. He feels, “you leave here as a friend not just another customer.”⁠
He added, “I feel it is up to us to keep this trade pushing forward and pass the torch to the next generation, to teach the do's and dont's on how a barber and barbershop should conduct themselves and be run, to show the OG's with our actions not words that we respect this time honored trade.” ⁠

I live in Georgia near Dahlonega. If you are eve in north east Georgia you should check out Woodys Barber shop. They have been open for over 94 years. I’m under 4 minutes in and wishing I was in that chair!! Holy crap! Plus the barber is super polite, asks repeatedly if he is ok in the chair, with towel temp, etc etc... ONE DAY I WILL GET THIS DONE!!

Until 12:00 in and he was applying powder to a nick (blood to skin contact) WITHOUT GLOVES, and then without washing his hands afterwards..... Not exactly a deal breaker, but also not sanitary. Dealing with the hot towels, towels with hair and shaving cream/butter on them... I would have gone ahead and washed with antibacterial soap before and afterwards. Gotta remember, someone from health department may be watching these videos as well.
