It’s amazing to see someone so positively addressing this. I feel like everyone around me doesn’t quite understand my hair situation, and I’ve gotten my fair share of “wow your hair is so thin” or “why don’t you ever grow out your hair longer?”(as though I really have a choice). I know most people weren’t trying to be rude at all, but their comments always kinda made me feel insecure. I have almost the exact same hair type as you- very thin and very fine- in fact when I saw the thumbnail, I thought we looked the same from behind lol. I’m really glad I found this video, it makes me feel a lot more confident in my hair. I don’t need to have thick, long, perfect hair, I just need to learn how to love myself for who I am. Thank you for this ❤️

I have thin hair, for ten years my old hair dresser put layers in my hair. Then I went to a new hairdresser who said first up, let’s grow these layers out. So for nearly two years I’ve been growing them out, my hair looks thicker and fuller and I’ve also been taking vitamins for hair skin and nails, which has increased hair growth. But having my hair one length has made a huge difference.
@mrs.w55394 жыл бұрын
It's amazing what a blunt cut will do. For years I also had layers. I'd say "I want my hair to look thicker, but its fine" and their advice was always "layers!". When I started asking for it to be cut bluntly I'd get looks and they'd say "just some layers..." ugh. I finally found a hairdresser who listened.

I went to one also prepared to spend whatever it took to just get a good cut/style. I'd been cutting my own hair. I sat in the chair, asked for help and he said that he really could not do anything for me. I got up and left. Took me a long time to ever walk into another salon. That was many years ago and still stings. Ive tried a few sense then but cut my own hair mostly. I really think that most beauty operators find that tine, thin hair is hard to do and hardly has the rewards that normal hair does. They'd rather not bother, most of them anyway. That's okay, I just make the best of it and tell myself that my hair does not define me.

I have fine hair and what works best for me is if I condition my ends first and THEN shampoo the top. I do NOT brush my hair out when it is wet, nor do I towel dry it. My hair is always pretty tangly when wet so if I try to brush it, it is much more susceptible to breakage. I wrap my hair in a towel to soak up some of the water, and after I take it out of the towel, I flip my head over and shake it around just a little, enough to separate my hair. I then separate my hair more by pulling apart big sections stuck together with my fingers. I try to shower early enough to where I have plenty of time for it to air dry, and I also do not put it up when I sleep. I haven't brushed my hair in about three days, but if I run my fingers through my hair, there are no tangles! I also haven't cut it for several months and have no split ends. I use shampoos that are for strengthening hair instead of adding volume, as this helps to keep your hair healthy. I avoid heat products and rarely put my hair into a pony tail, and if I do, I make sure it isn't super tight!

Couldn't agree more- she'd look amazing with pixie cut! She has oval face which is considered the perfect face shape and can pull off any hairstyle/haircut. And it's so much easier to make thin hair looking thicker when it's short. And, if you ask me, the most important thing is low maintenance. I'd cut my hair in a heartbeat if it would suit me, but I have an oblong face(🤬), with high forehead...the most troublesome type of oblong face shape! But throughout years I have learned to love myself, accept things as they are and make the best of it. Honestly, it's all in our head. It's so fascinating when you see an average woman surrounded with men. She's in no way typical beauty, but it's the energy, attitude, posture, smile...self-confidence that she radiating.

My hair has always been extremely thin and fine, even as a young child. I keep it very short now but many times in my life I tried to keep it longer. I cut it myself because I've had very bad experiences with hairdressers. One time I was so embarrassed. The hairdresser called out to other hairdressers in the shop to tell them this is the thinnest hair she has ever seen. I'm not kidding. It's not easy to cut it myself and I spend a lot of time looking online at haircutting. It's cheaper, too. Sometimes I will cut it and then have to re-cut it to improve it. But I am okay with that. When it was longer I used to use ponytail methods of haircutting but it didn't always turn out all that great. I think your hair looks great and I love the length. I inherited my thin strands of hair from my mother (now complicated by cancer, hormone blocker, and thyroid medicine), and can identify with your mention, in the introduction, of hairdressers who took away volume, rather than helping me keep what volume I had. Finally, I found two hairdressers to trust - one affordable, one very expensive. Now, quarantined, I am contemplating do-it-yourself, with some help from my husband. You have contributed a wonderful public service.

Kia your hair sounds like mine! I also have very fine and thin hair and I've also lightened it. But I just learned this: I just got a trim a few weeks ago and my ends looked nice. Then i started putting conditioning treatments on once a week to keep it healthy and my hair was trashed within 2 weeks.. very frayed split ends an inch or more up the hair shaft! The treatments were "moisturizing" according to the label but there were tons of hidden proteins in them too! As I started reading labels on all of my hair products I was finding them everywhere! Not everyone can use protein like that and if u have too much your hair will get very dry and brittle and start snapping off, becoming g even thinner. Watch your ingredients and watch out for protein because it sounds like u have the same hair type as me. Sorry this us so long u just wanted to share with u.

I have very fine, thin hair and cut and colour it myself. Shoulder length lob or just above, blunt cut and short fringe (baby bangs). I use semi permanent dye with no peroxide or ammonia that's kind to my scalp. Dyeing it really makes my hair look and feel quite a bit thicker, and heavy blunt baby bangs also gives the impression of having thicker hair too. I also sleep with it in a bun and the natural waves gives more volume that work well for up styles with the straight baby bangs and I think using two semi permanent hair colours OR balayage highlights makes the hair look thicker than a single uniform colour. Yours looks very pretty and really suits you :)

Great video! Your hair is very chic. My hairdresser has thin, fine hair much like mine, so he understands what it will and won’t do. He has told me “no” a number of times to a style I hoped to have, and he was right every time. He always tells me my freshly cut hair is beautiful, and though I would almost kill for thick, full hair 😄, he is just what I need. BTW, my perfect hairstyle is a bob and I am over trying to make my hair something it isn’t, and that is very freeing.

As someone who has dealt with baby fine hair her whole life I greatly appreciate you sharing your story so honestly. And you look fabulous!People can be very cruel without even giving it a second thought. While it is “just hair”, our hair is a big part of our self confidence and how we feel about ourselves. Struggling with your appearance is difficult regardless of the reason and we shouldn’t feel like we have to justify it. But as women we do. I’ve been very fortunate with my hairdressers, however I have learned to cut my hair out of necessity. And I personally wouldn’t be without layers in my hair. I’ve gone straight and my hair looks lifeless and dirty. And I’m bored of it in a minute so texturizing shears are my best friend but I’ve learned through trial and error at 54. We have to learn what works for each of us. I don’t believe in the “don’t ever do this” rule. If it works for you, rock on.

And my hair started to transform... slowly but surely. I still have ultra thin hair, but i don’t receive those hurting comments anymore. Nobody talks about it but maybe we just have a deep sensitivity to chimicals... you know, for most shampoo, the first ingredient is the Lauryl sulfate which is so agressive for your hair. Natural is always a good alternative. It was the same for my skin and it is getting better. Thank you for your message full of hope, and we see now that we are not alone. Wish you the best 🙏😘

Totally agree! My hair is as thin, fine as yours. It is so hard to find a good hairdresser and someone who realizes layers on thin hair are terrible. Good tips. I love you, for your honesty. I have learned that my hair grows very slow. noticed this when I was 16, and started to bleach my dark brown hair, that my roots don't grow out like my school friends (age 16). With this said, my friends hair was a lot fresher with new growth. My hair was very old on the ends, because it grows so slowly. Does this make sense? So, to keep my hair looking healthy, I have to keep it short. Like you. Today, at age 65, I wear my thin hair up on top of my head in a bun, and add a wiglet pinned to the knot of bun, held by cloth elastic pony tail thingy. My Bangs, that shows my scalp I add that brown powder, to camouflage scalp from thin hair.

Great video!! I have fine thin hair. Before having my 2nd child I had a lot of fine hair. I love my hairdresser! She is 100% honest with me. She will tell me if the hairstylist I want will work with my hair type. I value her opinion. My daughters have super thick hair and my oldest daughter gets her haircut by my stylist and the hairstylist recently told her that she feels so bad because I want heavy layered hairstyles and they just won’t work with my hair. You look very beautiful. I just got my haircut yesterday. I had a Lob that was growing out and it was starting to look too thin in the front. I got it yesterday, straight across with long layers. I don’t look good with a blunt cut. Also my hair grows pretty fast. I also use at home natural conditioning oil treatments and I have new growth. I feel that my hair is a little thicker. 😊

This is SUCH an awesome video, and I really never comment on individual videos at all. Literally thank you for so much for bringing to light how it feels to go into a hair dresser and not feel beautiful. Especially in the age of social media, where hair dressers will post their work and decide simply 'not to' with thin hair girls. It's an awful feeling!! So thank you for this, and for all of your videos surrounding this subject. Very amazing tips and keep it up girl!

You look simply great! I also have thin hair, and because they're super dark you can really notice the contrast with my scalp...it bothers me but there's nothing I can do, except not thinking about it! BTW I'm going to the hairdresser tomorrow (finally) to get a cut exactly like yours. The lenght between a bob and a lob seems to be the perfect one for my hair. Thank you for your videos, I rewatch them now and then because you're honest and conforting. (BTW sorry for any mistake, english is not my first language ❤️ )

Just found about your channel and tbh it made me feel so way better. I've always had sucha thin baby hair and when I was a kid I used to love my hair being so fluffy and smooth, however as any other kid growing up I was also told to try to make it fuller and how it made me just look sick and undesired. I am so glad there are ppl like me with whom I can share and just stop judging myself for who I am. Thank you Kia so much!

i find it really sad that even though you're saying ppl should love their thin hair and embrace it, we are still trying to find solutions to "fake" having thicker hair than we actually have :(
@KiaHazel5 жыл бұрын
Tbh. I agree with you. It's hard to fully explain what I mean. Like in this video. My hair is thin. When I brush it or go to the shower I still see and feel how thin it is. And that's my hair and I embrace it. But I suppose, just as I do my make-up as well, I also like styling my hair or going to the hairdresser. I suppose I do use the word thick to describe that it looks better and I am sorry for that. I did not mean that. Main point is that it's better to focus on healthy hair than just making it look thicker with different tricks or products. Healthy hair always looks and feels the best :)

I know a lot of people who say they have thin hair but I’ve never noticed and there are so many beautiful people out there who don’t have the ‘ideal’ thick shiny long hair. There’s more than one way to be beautiful c,:

I fortunately got a hairdresser after long who didn't make me feel bad about my fine hair... We discussed about possible hairstyles.. So got long pixie with dark roots nd complimentary ends.. So now it has boosted confidence 10 times n i don't feel like hiding it under caps and scarves.. Rather show it in full glory☺️

Your hair looks amazing!!! I have thin hair too. When my hair was the length yours was before you cut it, my hair would fall out all the time. In the shower and on my hairbrush. I cut my hair into a pixie and it looks so much better now. You look glowing. Thank you for sharing your tips, Kia!

This video and the comments made me feel better. I hate going to get my hair cut because of the comment “wow your hair is really thin” I’ve been cutting my own hair for years now because of how self conscious I am about my hair.

Hi, love your video!! Im Sweedish and at least 70% of the population has fine hair so I do not experience the issue with finding a hairdresser however the struggle with wanting long hair is real never the less😢 My hairdresser suggested olaplex and for my hair this really helps against the dry & bleached ends, but when over colouring then at some point only the scissors help. Have a lovelly day!!

Very classy bob. :-) I've cut my hair off numerous times into pixies, and always noticed that I felt MORE confident and sexy with short hair. With short hair, you can't hide behind hair...so it forces you to step out into the world, so to speak. Also, since it looked better short, that gave me more confidence.

Have you tried just fully embracing your natural color? I used to highlight and lighten my hair just a bit (for many years), but ever since I grew out my natural color (it’s taken a couple years) my hair has become sooo much thicker. I have very fine hair strands and I’ve come to realize now that even a tiny amount of highlighting/dyeing damages my hair too much and makes it look thin and unhealthy and stops it from getting long. I’m never putting chemicals on my hair again!
@judeflowers28135 жыл бұрын
Im glad that worked for you. Chemical free hair is healthy hair. I tried growing out my color but I've noticed the opposite unfortunately. If my hair is colored, it feels and looks thicker. I do not over style my hair. I use a little mousse all over and pretty much just blow dry my bangs and blowdry the rest of my hair til some of the moisture is gone. So not alot of heat or styling, so my hair isn't damaged thankfully. But its thicker when colored. You're lucky, Shelley.
@shelley.mulshine5 жыл бұрын
Judie Welch Yeah I know what you mean, I agree that dyed (or bleached) hair can seem to feel/look thicker because the hair texture roughens up a bit and creates more volume. I used to think my natural undyed hair looked really thin and flat, and after dyeing it my hair had so much more volume. But then it would start to thin out in the lengths and ends (because dyed hair breaks easier), so the hair would never grow long and look healthy at the ends. I think using texturizing products is a better way to go, or if you want to add color just use semi-permanents (dye without peroxide). Ps. Not ”you” specifically, just saying in general!
@fvallilee20725 жыл бұрын
You look beautiful. I've found that adding color or highlights (as you have) gives my hair a thicker appearance. It changes the texture. I only need to do it a few times a year and the benefits last quite awhile. Thanks for a great video!

When a young woman, I visited a hairdresser. He told me that whatever I did, my hair would never look good. I have very fine hair but a lot of it and will take any style but the style doesn’t hold. It was a boost when visiting another new hairdresser, he asked me to be a model in competition. I can live with my hair but hate my double crown.

I think you look absolutely adorable. Yes I had trouble with former hairdressers also. I also have a problem with my current dermatologist. She’s constantly telling me that my hair is very very thin for a woman my age. I’m 60.And I tell her it’s been this way all my life. She prescribed for me $400 shampoo that had sodium laurel sulfate in it. I found sulfate free shampoo‘s that have left my hair infinitely healthier. No split ends. Keep up the good work.

From my experience, men are better hairdressers...idk why, but it how it is. I've changed soooo many hairdressers 🤦🏻♀️ and they were mostly women (men, I stumbled upon, were great, but one moved and the other was bloody expensive!). After years and years I've found an amazing one- man, of course. He's a bit pricier, but he is constantly educating himself (also his employees) and, unlike so many women, he is listening to what I have to say(paying attention!!!), we discuss my wishes/ideas...he never puts me down. He suggests and explains why is something, in his opinion, best solution. Always having in mind my hair type and face shape.

I have fine hair and the best haircut I ever got was one with layers and it made my hair look so full compared to my current blunt cut. I have not been able to find a hairdresser that could do those layers the way I had them since I moved to another country.

I agree with you on everything.. I used to dye my hair sooo much, now I stopped and the last thing I did was a semi-permanent. I am trying to grow out my natural hair color, which I believe it suits me more. I am also thinking of cutting it a little shorter😊. Btw, you look so beautiful and that haircut suits you A LOT!😍🌹

Healthy and short, makes far more sense than long and scraggly! You have a lovely face, and this chin length cut brings less attention to your thin hair, and more to your pretty eyes and mouth. Long hair is not for everyone! Women need to celebrate versatility in hair length. Long hair can be a real burden to color, wash, style etc. Don't lock yourself into thinking long hair = sexy and short hair = old and unattractive. There are so many sexy short hair cuts now! I applaud your videos addressing thin hair, and your courage to go shorter. You look more modern!

You look gorgeous. Honey, with a beautiful face like yours, you could wear any length. This haircut is very flattering and chic on you. I love it! I have fine hair that is somewhat dense so not super thin but it fine so I’m very careful with what I do to it. I am very lucky to have an amazing hairdresser that really knows what she’s doing and always makes my hair look healthy. Thank god! Finding a good hairdresser is not easy but I think looking on yelp or maybe asking another person with fine/thin hair where they go might be good too. I’m so sorry to any people who have gone through rudeness at a salon. Those people should not do hair at all. That’s just bad business. 🤦🏻♀️

Yes! Finally found someone who has real thin hair like me ☺️. I have the worst hair....it’s curly and very thin...I never leave it curly because it just frizzes and looks horrible...so I straighten it....it’s so thin I can’t wear it down now either (unless I go super short which is better for my hair but not good when it’s curly)...I’ve tried extensions and they slip out and don’t have enough to cover it 😝. Even tried the band and it was too big and kept slipping off 😝. I’m so jealous of people with thick hair...at least they can style it anyway they want!

I have the very same issues with my hair it gets dead looking when it gets longer. I am 40 and i just now went from very long hair to a cut exactly like yours. I searched for hair dressers and finally found a place that i thought id like i told them before i even went what i was working with and the stylist was not helpful, she left hair dye on my forehead. Ive seen her work it was great but i could tell she has no experience with my kind of hair! Anyway im glad im not the only one who has to deal with this weird hair we have. I Also started taking vitamins thinking it would help with biotin and collagen nope just gotta deal with it i guess! Thank you for your video!!

I have since childhood always had very thin fine baby hair, and styled in a chin length bob. It's probably the best option anyway. I wash my hair everyday, because my scalp is oily and I need to keep the oil at a minimum. I've tried longer hair but because my hair is super thin, they tangle up all the time if they're long. The thing I haven't yet tried is textured wave, which might help with the volume.

Love the new color and cut! Logona Naturkosmetik has wonderful plant-based hair colors (henna, walnut shells, beet root, buckthorn bark, Sudanese tea, ingredients such as these). The colors catch light and look so pretty! They need to be used on hair not colored with chemical colors, I think. I found them very pretty, and they give my hair body and volume without dryness. I was glad to find color free of synthetic color, preservatives, and other ingredients that don't agree with me. Thanks for your videos ⚘

ugh thank you for this video....... I went to my first salon visit after careful consideration that I won't be doing my own hair anymore... and wanted a certain look and they took all of my volume and curly hair away and thinned it out so badly and I thought that's what was suppose to happen... and then they blamed me that it was because how damaged my hair was that's why it was so short and thin..... my hair was about to the length of my mid spine and the hair cut I wanted was just some simple layers nothing so drastic to take my hair and make it to the length of my jawline.... I didn't want to be ungrateful so I'm working with what I have now and hope my hair comes back to normal.... thank you for comforting me with your words and videos its helping me so much bc at this point im just doing everything I can to at least make it look like I have SOME hair ahahaha

Colouring my hair dark makes it look thinner when I have roots as my natural is dirty blond/light brown so the growth against the dark enhances the fineness and thinness.

I don’t have thin hair but my sister does. I’ve always cut and dyed my own hair and she adores it. I want to know better alternatives for her cuz the hairdressers don’t listen to her. I’m going to start cutting her hair too(no I’m not a professional I’ve just been doing my own through trial and error for 7 years now). She has an anxiety disorder where she pulls her hair out and cant help it. I want her to feel beautiful again. She’s older than me and genuinely struggles with it.

Hi, I just discovered your channel and love this video. I always had to use a ton of stiff and sticky hairspray to get my hair to stay put. It took me many years to realize it was because my hair was so thin it wouldn’t stay in place. I have hypothyroidism and that caused my hair to thin plus other medical issues. I decided that a blunt bob like yours was the best look on me except I have to have bangs because I have a ridiculously high forehead on top of thin hair and this makes it even harder because my bangs have to start halfway to the back of my head. Your hair looks very pretty.
