And people definitely shouldn't beat someone up just because they don't think the same way as them.

There is soooo much great symbolism in Queen Latifah's part. Lyrically, musically, AND in the actors performance... Lyrically, the idea of equality, and how it IS the future "Tomorrow is a brand new day, and it don't know white from black." Musically, it is the highest/brightest sounding key (a symbol of hope, I think) thus far throughout the song after the song has modulated keys MANY times. Finally, the performance of all the dancers banning together and just an overall energy that they knew in the bottom of their hearts, this is how it is meant to be... White and Black people living together in harmony, and finally them being able to live it, FOR REAL.

Have you noticed in a musical about racial equality that the main relationship your ment to care about is between two white people instead of the (at that time) revolutionary relationship between Penny and Seaweed, one of the few 'checkerboard' relationships at that time. Weird right?
@gobygal9 жыл бұрын
I kind of wondered that too. I also kind of thought there was a secret thing between Queen Latifah and the Collins character. At least, I wish there was. I mean, collins makes sure the daughter/sister gets on television then makes the show permanently integrated. There is that one second clip of them jamming together. If it wasn't an a real thing, then it should have been.
@liviamalkin3339 жыл бұрын
I get that and I see it now and you are so right
@iylila9 жыл бұрын
I think it fits better this way. If Tracy had fallen for a black boy than there wouldn't have been any change. She gets onto the show because of her feelings for Link. If she hadn't liked him then she wouldn't have gotten onto the show, and this plot wouldn't have happened.
@liviamalkin3339 жыл бұрын
Yea, you're right but I don't think it should have been the focal relationship
@ironcolossus49 жыл бұрын
Livia Malkin maybe that's the idea, Penny & Seaweed relationship is just an afterthought, like "it's not a big deal", while integration becomes the mayor theme, u know? like them being together is just a small piece of the great picture. IDK, maybe it was conceived in a similar way?
@theoriginalsache5 жыл бұрын
Rumor is that apparently, in acting/musical circles, this song is frequently renamed "You Can't Stop To Breathe." Which, yes.

At school my friends and I actually performed in this. We were asked by the teacher who was in charge of the school productions if we could be the coloured kids in this and of course we said yes. It was a blast to have performed in a musical like this. It's a show that never will get old

Me feeling bad for Amanda Bynes having to wear a leg restricting dress and high heels during the most high energy scene, bravo for her dancing anyway.
