No trash on the streets. Looking at these faces everyone is relaxed, there is no fear or anxiety, no signs of undernourishment. Yes indeed it was a beautiful country with the most beautiful landscaping, fragrant flowers, the most beautiful birds flying around. All started to decline and disappearing under the brutal dictatorship of Duvalier, absolute fear was institutionalized causing many to flee. Let’s pray for the former jewel of the Caribbean country: Haiti to regain one more time its beauty.

Get rid of corrupt politicians(so much corruption) and stop the coups, a country can't get on its feet when the gov't is not stable. The fuel stabilization is a huge factor. The problem is, the money will just go into greedy pockets and not into fixing the country itself.

I agree that the u.n. is a devil in disguise. Not just the cholera, they do not bring stability to any nation they're in, just problems. But i think blaming" big ,bad America'" for everything is a cop out. I find it interesting that people don't understand there is NO govt, in the EU, u.s. China etc that doesn't do something without expecting something in return. All countries do it but people are surprised that the u.s. does it as well. Those same countries that hate the "corrupt u.s. govt" are the first to ask for a handout from it when times get tough or natural disasters happen. Guess what the solution is to keeping the u.s. out of the business of other countries? Get stability and fight corruption in the country youre in and stop making excuses And blaming others. Start electing decent people and allowing them to complete their terms in office and don't complain when taxes are enforced because taxes are what is supposed to keep a country from going into disrepair.

Those looking at this footage should understand that this was taken just a few years after the US occupied the country. What we're looking at is not a free and flourishing Ayiti. What we're looking at is a neo-colony formed after 19 years of occupation. This is the era that spurred the compradors (foreign and domestic) who have effectively maintained the people of Ayiti as a global underclass. Some Ayisyen (elders especially) look fondly at this period as a time of security, never realizing that the only reason it appeared so is because the colonizers had Ayiti EXACTLY where they wanted it. -but that level of exploitation can only last for so long. Think about it, there's no cause for the kind of violence we see today from the colonizers so long as they can freely exploit the land and labour (while the people suffer). The masses realizing their condition will use violence to rise up, the colonizers and their puppets will use violence to quell the uprisings in response. Like water seeks its level, Ayisyen will ALWAYS seek freedom. As such, violence must take place. Please, study the history so we can move forward. If you can only read one book, I recommend reading "How Europe Underdeveloped Africa" by Walter Rodney to get a good historical analysis of what is plaguing Africans today. Furthermore, I recommend joining a revolutionary organization fighting for the liberation of Africans everywhere. One day Ayiti, like Africa, through the relentless organization of the masses of African people, will be rid of capital-imperialist exploitation and oppression. Only then will we know freedom. Only then will we know peace.
