In this episode, I travel to Cap Haitien in Haiti. I rented a car and visited the amazing Citadelle Laferrière. This historical marvel is near Milot village. The entrance fee was $10. I recommend visiting in the morning as there were no other people. In order to visit the Citadelle, you need to pay a guide to open the door for you. There are many people waiting in Milot to offer their service as a guide and take you up the hill on a motorbike. I opted for walking by myself. I was able to drive the car to the parking lot by the Citadelle and then it is around 30 minutes walking.
The history of the citadelle is amazing and it is a very well-preserved historical structure. My guide was excellent, very kind and knowledgeable. The views from Citadelle were breathtaking.
I visited Haiti during the unrest. I visited only Cap Haitien and its surroundings, which I found to be relatively safe at the time of my visit. Despite the poverty, I found the Haitian people to be very warm and kind.
