Haitians’ bond through Voodoo and art | WIDE

In Jacmel, the southwestern region of a Caribbean island nation Haiti, Voodoo is the very bond that holds together a people. For Haitians, Voodoo represents a form of resistance against the French colonial empire.
In other corners of the city, Jacmel’s art scene is thriving. The artisanship of papier-mâché remains a prevalent tradition of Haiti. The local artists are calling for the allocation of resources into art, so that the younger generation can succeed their craft.

I would like to visit Haiti now. I am very poor and probably never will, but the conversations one could have afterwards are endless. "Hey Mike what did you do last week?" "I attended a voodoo ritual in Haiti." I would love to be able to actually be able to start a sentence like that.

Lmao poor and dumb? I live in Florida and Haitians do better than Dominicans when given the same education opportunities. Cubans and Haitians excel in Florida, Nyc, Boston. Lawyers doctors especially the medical field period. And nothing about Vodou is dumb, dominicans practice it too except they call it 21 divisiones. Dominicans also not rich they poor too, you have dirt roads, shacks,poverty, light outages all over Dominican republic...don't let the tourist areas fool you,dr just LESS POOR but still poor.

Yep, there's no equality nowhere else in the world. In fact, the Dominican Republic is rich, no one is poor, and they're all living in villas and having a feast daily! While in the U.S, the richest country int he world, people walk on gold paved streets and just take money from trees when they need it. No one is poor there. All the communities are made of castles, no one sleep in the streets.
