I really enjoyed your coverage of Laozi’s teachings about the “belly and eye”, a very important concept in Daoist philosophy 😄👍🙏

Agreed! They have been quite useful. It is a great way to remember to live simply. Aquire the needs of the belly, don’t get distracted by the desires of the eye. An important reminder lest we become slaves to those very desires.

I have been studying Cheng Bagua from one of Sun Zhijun's disciples. It is very interesting to see the similarities and differences between these two branches when I watch you move.

Tai chi chuan is amazing. Bagua zhang is amazing. “Tai chi bagua” sounds fantastic! Do you know this style? Will you be demonstrating it? Very exciting topic today!

Thank you for the episode and interesting information. I would be very interested to learn more about Liu Dekuan as his name keeps coming up in the context of Xingyi and Bagua (now also Taichi) but not many information are available about his life.

I was also under the impression that Bagua Taiji was developed by Cheng Youlong: But others, as Master Hai Yang has pointed out, say that Bagua Taiji was developed by Liu Dekuan, who developed the linear 64 Hands( different from 64 Palms taught by Master Yang) found in many Bagua Styles. But Baqua Taiji is not a widely Practiced Style and the origins of this style are very Murky, and in addition the Yang Jian Hua medium frame Taiji is not widely practiced either today. After a little research I found that a form of Bagua Taiji, that might have originated with Cheng Youlong or Liu Dekuan, was taught at the Central Martial Arts Academy in Nanjing in the 1930’s: Later the style was brought to Taiwan by some students of the Central Martial Arts academy, after the communists took power in Mainland China. The person most associated with the Style recently was Zhao Fu Lin: kzbin.info/www/bejne/h4HMpp58Zdd8pLM and here is Master Yu Xiaolin From Shanghai doing his interpretation of Yang Jianhou’s 85 movement Medium Yang Style Taiji-one of the best displays of Yang Style Taiji I’ve thus far seen: kzbin.info/www/bejne/nHSlhXeQj7yXetE
