Well...to me it's just incredibly inspirational. The first time i heard this credit song, i kept imagining someone against the ropes with their guard up, taking blow after blow without giving up ...then i saw Ep 75... My eyes widened at that scene almost as much due to the epicness of Ippo's determination as the coincidence of how close my envisioning of it was. And it was a remix of the song too. Man...that was such a great scene.

In my honest opinion I think Date deserved the win against Ippo. Looking into his past it would seem unfair for him not to fight Ricardo for a second time and prove himself, even if he did lose the match in the end. I feel better knowing that Ippo got his first lose against Date rather than Miyata, Volg or Sendo.

***** Hajime no Ippo isn't Ashita no Joe. Ippo is a boxing manga that focuses on Ippo's boxing career, and Ashita no Joe is more about the drama in Joe's life. Ippo is more realistic when it comes to boxing, so Ippo's hair won't turn white in the last chapter of the manga nor will his last opponent suddenly gain the physique of a decaying old man like in Ashita no Joe. I think Gonzales will beat Ricardo, and Ippo will have to move up in the world rankings to earn a rematch against Gonzales. Ippo will win and become the world champion. The rest of the manga will focus on Ippo defending his title and possibly dominating other weight classes. A more realistic ending to Hajime no Ippo would deal with Ippo as a 40 year old man, the age where plenty of boxers begin to fall from their prime, and he would hold his own against the new generation, but he will eventually lose. Ippo will retire as a legend, knowing what it truly means to be strong.

***** People seem to forget that Ippo isn't boxing to be the best, he's looking for an answer, "What it means to truly be strong". In a sense I don't think he means the physical aspect but more the mental part of it. I feel like the author of the manga has kinda of forgotten this part about of Ippo, which really annoys me. For example in one of the latest chapters after his latest lose against Gonzales he said to Kumi that he would quit boxing if he lost again. Which was kinda upsetting, it feels like he's lost his way. I personally hope when Ippo fights Miyata for the last time he will find that answer.

+SadistikDJ Glad someone else who's a fan gets this. Whenever a character in Ippo calls someone else "strong", it's a big deal. There's a consistent theme of this throughout the series (along with the animal monikers).

Yeah bro, exactly. It's safe to that most of the major characters aren't just strong in the physical sense but in the spiritual sense too. I like to think that's the main focus of the series. For example, the whole fighting spirit that's been past down through most of the major characters such, Takamura, Ippo, kamogawa, Sendo and Date (just a few off the top of my head). Really glad to hear someone understands it too!

There's got to be a point where the fights feel like they repeat themselves since, especially compared to other stories, they are restricted due to a heavy set of rules and circumstance. Of course you can focus on the boxers lives and carrers differently, there is more to it than just fighting but that too has got be reaching it's limit in terms of how interesting it is. That's what I worry about.
