Over 1,300 people have died during this year's Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia due to extreme high temperatures. The deceased were mostly unauthorized pilgrims who walked long distances in intense heat.

It's simply a punishment by Saudi authorities .. Most of the victims are on a legal visit visa but without pilgrimage permit which costs extra $1200 and allows you access to medics , transportation , AC facilities, water and food .. they were left to walk 23km to reach the holy grounds in scorching heat .. In brief : you don't pay = you die ..

Both, and the hajj committee did a good job reducing number of deaths this year. They didn't allocate enough resources to host the illegal/unregistered pilgrims, who tried to avoid the authorities anyway.

They will be buried in Saudi. The deceased will be treated according to Islamic law, i.e., cleansed etc., brought to local mosque for prayer and buried around Mecca (this tragedy happened in area called Arafa, closer to Mecca than Medina, the other alternative). There are some major burial grounds there. To some, embracing dead while doing pilgrimage is a dream of lifetime, but to the office of Hajj of Saudi, pilgrimages' well being is their top priority. Hope this tragedy is the last, but managing gathering of hundred of thousands comes with its own challenges. Thank you for your kind concern. 🙏
