No because dude, these stories are legit the quintessential LATAM experience as a teenager. You had to pray that your measly data plan could last you the whole week, otherwise you would have to think outside the box to get proper wifi 😂 It was a STRUGGLE
@LuckOfTheDrawReborn Жыл бұрын
The crazier part is like, most public establishments in the US aren't stingy about you coming in to use the Wi-Fi. Hell at Wal-Mart there isn't even a password, just turn the Wi-Fi on and it connects. Changing the password every day is NEXT LEVEL petty.

Every latam kid with the 5Gb plan got a free ticket to anxiety every time youtube forced auto quality on us. If for whatever reason they decided to pull a sneaky on you and set your quality to 720+ and you didn't notice then you could kiss your data plan goodbye in a single afternoon

Hakka's experience is everyone's experience back then who came from a not wealthy family. If his is about internet, then during my time it was about sending sms. Each provider has different rates and sending sms from one provider to a different provider will have different charges for each pages of sms sent. I had to carefully word my sms so that it can be sent within 10 or sometimes 5 messages only. And it was to my friend. Using my parent's phone. The 3310 one. During school holiday. Hoooly shit those days...When it was internet time, I also have the experience of going to fast food restaurants or mamak restaurants to nick their internet. Sometimes just sitting in the parking lot inside our cars and do our homework. Internet plans were expensive and is actually still expensive these days. What the hell, Malaysia.

This is bringing me back. In high school I had $10 PAYG credit each month; $5 used for a 250MB add-on, the rest of the $5 was budgeted for talk/txt. I was INCREDIBLY excited when I saw a $15 1GB, with 200 mins standard talk and unlimited standard sms.

Ah, the nostalgia! I don't remember if my issue was that I had like, 1GB or 10 GB (I don't remember exactly, I do remember I thought it was too little) but I remember being so jealous that a cousin that went to public school (I was a private school kid jkjkjkjk) apparently had unlimited data plan and when I asked my dad he refused xd It took until I got to college for him to finally agree to pay me an unlimited data plan (don't remember if Sis already had one having already been in college or if also he started paying it for her at the time).
@ElEscolta Жыл бұрын
Latam moments indeed, i didn't have data plan until my last year of highschool, and even then just by loading one site it would consume half of it, all the money i received was just for taking the bus, at least the tickets where cheap because of student rates.

I still live like that. Unlimited data is so pricy (899php) so we made do with a "2gb per day plus 24gb data" plan, but that's kinda pricy too (499php) so we stopped for a bit, but luckily the 24gb stacks as long as you don't let it expire, (when you renew your plan the expiry is updated too) so we currently have the "1gb for social media apps and 4gb data" plan (299php) in addition to the data we already have. My solution is to just watch in 144p. I'm on mobile so pretty doable. Data saver mode on, so at the most the video plays on 360p. Btw I'm not the only one using this plan, there's 3 of us sharing it. 144p is crap but it's better than nothing.

I still live like that lmfao. Parents got me a phone with a prepaid sim without data during my mid teens because they believed it wasn't needed. I've carried that dataless prepaid sim from teens into adulthood and still use it to this day. I'm definitely a wifi hunter, but that's only in rare occurences (usually emergency googles) and has never been worth getting an actual plan (also I hate monthly subscription based payments). My parents all those years ago likely realized I was never going to use my phone much to begin with (which they were absolutely correct about) and made the right call, which led to me now being used to it and saving money on a data plan.

This is so relatable. Back then in our school too not everyone gets to have a book. So for those that I dont have I will borrow from the library and write down everything I need on my notebook. As for the internet, I dont have a phone until I was already graduating college. Fasting days are sooooo awful just to save a few money for internet.

Imma translate if anyone wants to read this in English lol. Reminds me when I was in school still, and my mom didn’t want us having wifi in the house, so I had ro grasp into whatever free wifi I could from my neighbors. 80kbps download was fast and the rare 200kbps was god sent. But it has to be in an exact angle in my bedroom lmao. Nowadays I am the one that pays for the internet in my house.

Just a little note here 3:31, the word "cipotes" is used as a slang for "you guys; y'all" to refer to a group of friends, it is not a slur or a cuss word for us so I feel like putting it as "mfs" isn't right, though it does get the job done.
