It might be the wrong way to do it but I find that two pin components are much easier to solder if you tin one pad with solder before placing the component on the board, heat the tinned pad and place the component with tweezers, when the component is locked into place, solder the other pad.

Thanks for posting your review of this quality product. I've been researching soldering stations to replace my cheap radio shack "firestarter" and the Hakko certainly stands out. This unit would look and perform great on my bench here in Michigan!

Also, from the past year's experience, and thus is for everyone else, don't bother getting a really fine tip for your iron. It's a pain in the butt to use. Like he says, the chisel tip he's using here will do the MAJORITY of what you need. Anybody want a hakko fine tip? Only been used 2 times...

This video started good with a good and thorough explanation of the capabilities and settings of the Hakko solderingstation. However you've managed to completely ruin the video and miss its purpose, by fast-forwarding and sounding an awkward voice. a no-go for me.

Thanks for the demo! I was concerned about the kind of clunky interface with this but you explained it well on your previous video and great demo here! I'm in seattle wa! Also is there ever any point in turning your iron down to low heat if you're going to be 5-10 minutes between joints? (solder something, then put batteries in do some testing and look what you might need to fix) or is it fine to just turn it off and on for small gaps like that?

Wonderful demo, I ran across your videos while looking for a new soldering station, I was a bit put off by the color combination of the new hakko (I was always a fan of the utilitarian design of the 936), but I think you have sold me despite it. I'll throw my name in the hat for the giveaway as well, I'm from North Carolina, US. Thanks for looking out for your viewers.

Mesa, AZ. Really like the video. I'm starting in the RC aircraft hobby and some procedures require soldering. Battery wires, motor wires, and links all require soldering. There was at the end a part where you brushed some liquid on paper or cloth. Didn't quite get what that was.
@wadehampton1534
@wadehampton1534 10 жыл бұрын
He was brushing on an epoxy type sealer to put a protective coating over everything. This ensures that debris or liquids can't short out any of the components.
@diceroller00
@diceroller00 10 жыл бұрын
I actually believe Sparky was cleaning any residual flux off of the board using a kimwipe (lint free wipe) and a solvent mix of Iso alcohol and acetone.
@wadehampton1534
@wadehampton1534 10 жыл бұрын
I stand corrected diceroller, you're absolutely right. I remember that step now, the flux is absorbed into the tissue/ultra thin parchment paper, paper towel or kimwipe (whichever one chooses to use) Its been so long since I constructed a circuit board and my preference is a Kimberly Clark Kimwipe. The Epoxy goes on after removing the flux, if one desires to seal the board. Good catch diceroller! When I watched the video, that portion played in fast forward both video and audio. It was difficult to discern what was going on.

diceroller00 thank you. I am new here, and new to electronics. I enjoyed this video, but don't know why he would fast forward and "chipmunk through" something so helpful as that, and not explain. I still learned a lot, but it seems a waste to show it and not explain it. I still found the video very helpful and enjoyable. I just hate to miss something. Thank you all for explaining!

Thanks so much for presenting this. I just received mine from A. and it's like night and day. I just got started so it's a lot better to learn soldering on this, than that crapola pencil I was using. Thing is - there are soooo many tip sizes and shapes for the Hakko, not to mention the different kinds of solder and flux. It's a bit overwhelming. Do you think you'could do one of your excellent vid's on that? Tips on tips ? Meanwhile, kind thanks from planet earth.
