Elliot’s teacher definitely can hear it in his playing

You can, can't you! I believe he was originally assigned to Phil Wilson (at Berklee) but insisted on being switched to Hal.

@@RobEgertonJazzTranscriptionsdo you know any other plauers that sound remotely close to Elliot?

@@AryanShehranMusic No! Hal is probably the closest, but only in style and not sound.

@@RobEgertonJazzTranscriptions Yeah for sure! Elliot has that darkness and broadness. Definitely want that in my playing.

Possibly jazz's most under-appreciated trombonist in my view.

One of my favorite solos. From what I can hear the third bar of the form isn’t really 7 over 4. The F hits right on beat 2 and it’s all 8th notes till the end of the bar. FDEbFGAb are all 8th notes. It’s hard to notate because he essentially stretches the time until beat 2 of measure 3.

Yeah, that section almost took me longer than the rest put together. Such is the nature of standard notation, I was never really happy with it!

Why is some random Mexican group getting the credit for this?
