I've never paid much attention to Prince Valiant, but wow, I am impressed. Thanks so much for sharing, don't think I would have ever looked into it on my own.

Mission accomplished! Glad you caught the magic! I’m a new devotee myself and once you pour into it it’s pretty incredible and to think this was all done in the 30-40s and lasted decades, it’s remarkable

You glanced over the story so I thought you were going to mention that the 12-25-1937 page is the inspiration for Jack Kirby's The Demon character he created when he worked for DC. This was mentioned in Scioli's graphic novel: Jack Kirby: The Epic Life of the King of Comics. Much like you I didn't appreciate Prince Valiant as a young man until I happened to see one of Foster's original art pages for Prince Valiant in person (the thing was huge) and it just blew me away. Keep up the good work..

Thanks brother! Awesome to know about Kirby I never knew that. Yeah I saw an original too I think it was at least 13x19 but maybe even 18x24

Hi, I keep asking Abey other artist in KZbin the same question. Can you tell me, maybe through another video how they painted for comics those days? Some say they used gouache and somewhere I read the colour was added during the print stage. If they used gouache, then did they ink after the paint? Hoping to see your reply. Thanks in advance.

I think there’s an afterward where they talk about the archival reproduction and why they earlier pages are a bit rough...
@ArtofComics3 жыл бұрын
Yes, you are correct! They do talk about getting those earlier pages and it being a challenge to make the plates.

Like a squire's do was the idea I imagine; they had to emphasize his youth via ancient methods I bet to suit kiddie market of day

Could you thow some light on the tools and techniques of the drawing process of Hal foster ...his prelim sketches are 8 x 11 inches whereas original drawing size was 15 x21 inches . So how did he transfer the prelum Size drawing on to the final size .
@ArtofComics11 ай бұрын
I don’t know off hand I can try to look that up. If I were to guess I’d say that he actually redrew it. He didn’t have a projector or way to blow it up larger, I don’t think
@vikasupadhyay139811 ай бұрын
@@ArtofComicsthanks.. I have been looking up and found some of his prelim drawings which have a grid drawn over them ..I think he used a grid method as a guide to redraw on a new sheet of paper . But that's my inference based on the prelim drawings . I would appreciate If I could find a substantial proof of his actual process.

@@ArtofComics no. Page squire, synonyms. The haircut was popular with young women roaring twenties . See Bernice bobs her hair, Louise brooks etc . Pageboy haircuts

Do you have any clues about the workflow of Mr. Foster on this Comic?
@ArtofComics3 жыл бұрын
No, I'm not sure how it was done. I'm sure that's out there somewhere, but I'm by no means an expert on Foster.
