Als Folge des Touristenbooms auf Mallorca wurden viele bäuerliche Betriebe aufgegeben und die Ziegen verwilderten. Sie vermehrten sich rasch, sodass es heute rund 30000 von ihnen auf der Insel gibt. Sie fressen besonders in der Tramuntana alles erreichbare Pflanzenmaterial und dezimieren so viele Pflanzenarten, besonders jedoch junge Baumschößlinge. Die Einheimischen sprechen von einem leisen Waldbrand, den man zwar nicht sieht und nicht riecht, der jedoch genauso zerstörerisch ist wie ein echter Waldbrand.
