Here in May 2023, and I just bought a very nice condition used SX60 , so I must tell you what a terrific review you did here , sir. I'm about your age I would say, and I travel both domestically and internationally. I have owned maybe 10 cameras ( several at one time overlapping ). I have a useful tiny pocket zoom, the Sony HX90, a Sony A6000, and now this Canon. That combination is everything I need, for everyday pocket (HX90) , serious photo travel zoom ( SX60), and best affordable ILC with 3 prime lenses. Most appreciated : A./ the explanation of the "recover subject in viewfinder" button on the side of the barrel. B./ the un-retouched video examples all the way to digital limit C./ the Macro, which is actually pretty okay for such a camera.( readers: It is necessary to pause this video to see the macro real photo., which will still be worse than real life of course) D./ the slow motion video playback...obviously shot using a tripod... So, in reality, I liked everything you did here, which is to demonstrate almost all the camera abilities other than still photo, which can be viewed many places . SUBSCRIBED.

Such a good review. Thanks. I have the 50 and really wanted a review highlighting the advantages of the 60. For me I will probably upgrade when there is a sale. (this camera rarely goes on sale). The extra zoom isn't so much a factor but the grid, wifi, much better viewfinder, video quality and dial/button layout make it a better camera. Thanks again.

Sir, A MOST HIGH EDUCATIONAL VIDEO..!! I love the simplicity and the bear facts you expose aabout this camera. A million dollar question: Based on the date of this video and the dates on your travels, did you shoot those documentaries with this camera, Sir? I hope the answer will be yes. Just to confirm my theory that it's the man, not the camera, who gets the results. Of course, I understand that the camera is the instrument, but it all comes to creativity. Keep on sharing, my dear friend.

Thank you very much for the kind words. Some of the videos on my channel like the ones on my Leh visit were shot by a very primitive Sony camera. After that I acquired a Canon Legria HF S30. It is a very good camera. Next I purchased this SX60HS. The only problem I was having with Legria was its 10X optical zoom. This is highly unsuitable for wildlife, more so for birds. That prompted me to go in for Sx60. I still love my Legria and extensively use it when I do not require high zoom. Legria being a handycam and not a bridge camera has the typical handycam grip. Most of my videos have been shot with the camera held in hand. I find it easier to hold the camera steady with the camcorder type grip rather than holding it by both the hands. So, my videos have been shot using both the cameras. The Keoladeo Ghana Bird Santuary video is the only video shot exclusively using SX60 only

Sx50 does have the horizontal level indicator. Also, if you shoot the same simultaneous video with sx50 and sx60 side by side, upon viewing the vids also side by side you will notice a subtle choppiness of the frames in sx60-like skipping especially upon zooming and panning while sx50 videos are flawlessly fluid, flowing and smooth!

Here we emphasize on the Video and Macro capabilities of this Great new Super zoom camera which we found quite amazing but lost/ ignored under the pile of other details of most all other reviews available on-line. Hello Tirthankar, I enjoyed seeing your excellent review however I have two questions. I have an old Canon 3S IS model that was very noisy when zooming in/out and this was always picked up in my video recording. 1. How is the SX60 for this as I will be doing a lot of video recording as well as stills? 2. Now that you have had the camera for over a year, does it still "occupy a sweet spot in your kit bag"? Kindest regards, Vaughan
@tirthankarhaldar9 жыл бұрын
Thanks Vaughan, We have noticed no perceptible noise while zooming in or zooming out. The second question will be a qualified 'Yes, it still has a sweet spot'. As for my purposes 4K recording is an overkill and 65x zoom is more than enough. However it is more thana year old now and there are newer toys for other boys :-)

Thank you for this great review too much benefit i got .. i have a question and hope you will answer is this camera takes personal photo with throwing the background and make it full blurry and focusing only on the person? and what is the result with medium zoom is it will focus on all body or only face? because i'm very interesting with this function. Thank you
@tirthankarhaldar10 жыл бұрын
Dear Fawzy Aly, Thank you for your comments. There are four variables which you have to play with in order to blur the background of any photo. They are (i) Distance of the background from the subject (ii) Aperture setting on your camera, (iii) Focal length of the lens you are using and (iv) Size of the sensor of your camera. Now, this camera has a small sensor size and you cannot do anything about it. But the other three parameters you can play with to get reasonably good background blur in your pictures. You should keep the background as far away from the subjject as possible, You should choose the aperture priority mode and set the aperture to the largest possible value and increase your camera distance from the subject and zoom on to the subject to increase the focal length of the lens. I hope this helps you
@fawzyalyahmed10 жыл бұрын
Tirthankar Haldar Thank you for your response and your helpful information, i saw some photos taken by this camera and the background was fully blurry but all of this photos was shooting the birds or animals only, so i think if i applied the steps you provided to me i will get the same result for personal photos. Thank you again :)

hi i purchased this cam from e bay one week ago... i have some doubts which i present here for clarification.. 1. i already have 58 mm close up filters. can i use this in this camera lens? lens dia is not indicated in this camera which is so strange... 2. i have problems in focusing... pls let me know how to sharp focus manually as well as in auto...
@tanmayhaldar75659 жыл бұрын
kuttan kuttan 1) 58mm is the appropriate thread dia on this camera.....you should have no problems..... but since you have already purchased it you can confirm, as I do not find the need for closeup filters as my work gets done with the native macro capabilities 2) For autofocus you need to press the shutter button halfway and you will get a focus confirming beep..... for manual focus in the P Tv and Av mode if you press the MF labelled flower icon on the rear circular control you can choose between three options, "Normal", "Manual", "Macro"...... On selecting Manual focus you can then use the rear dial to move the lens backward or forward to adjust focus. This is review video and the functionality has not been dealt with. We will shorlt be coming up with a tutorial if the community of viewers express the requirement

Your video is wonderful. I'm looking at this camera to use at college football games in the United States to film and take pictures of my daughter in the marching band. In the stadium you aren't allowed a video camera, nor a camera that has a lens that extends over 6". My current Canon Rebel T3i with 28 to 300 mm lens extends over the limit. This camera looks like it would do the work of both my video camera and Rebel. Could you please measure and let me know from the base of the lens fully extended how long is it? And when taking video, can you also snap a picture and the video continue recording at same time. The Rebel does do that, I'm just really band at following daughter on field when I can only see video in the LCD screen. I have to use the eye piece. The Rebel only shows video in the LCD screen. I think I saw somewhere that is camera will show the video in the eye piece. Thanks for any help you can give me. Seeing my daughter march in the college band is a exciting time for me. I videoed and took pictures at her four years of high school marching band.

Awesome presentation sir. I liked it better than others out there probably because this is the first time I'm seeing a bengali man doing technical reviews, but I think its more due to the no-frills, no extra animations or unnecessary jokes but the real "review". (Yes, I'm a bengali if you're wondering) I'm amazed. I think you should upload more videos and provide tips for us, budding photographers, on shooting with a superzoom camera. I subscribed and will be waiting for your future uploads. I have one question to ask, though. Can the focus be changed while keeping the zoom fixed? To explain it properly, in dslr's we see that due to the manual focusing ring, we can blur/deblur the scene WHILE recording video. As you must be aware already, this gives some pretty looking shots.
@tirthankarhaldar9 жыл бұрын
+DaRapar0011 Thank you very much for your comment. The answer to your question is "YES". This camera provides complete manual control of all the settings including focus. The camera has an "MF"(Manual Focus") button. You choose Manual focus by pressing this button. Now it allows you set your focus by pressing the up-down button at any level of zoom. Now this is the problem. If you are changing the focus while recording, then since the button is on the camera body, you are likely to incorporate some camera shake in the picture while changing focus. But if you pre-adjust your focus and then shoot at the same setting there is no problem. I hope the reply is of some help to you.
@DaRapar00119 жыл бұрын
Yes of course its been of great help. A big thanks to you. I think I'll be getting this camera for myself at December end (if I don't already find any other super-zooms better than this within my budget).

Hello Haldar ji... i want you to comment on its auto focus capabilities during video recording. Nikon P600 is almost unusable in this regard !!

Dear Leo ji, The Video Autofocus is decidedly slow when compared to an SLR. However, let me qualify this further, the SX60 HS has a zoom of 21mm to 1365mm full frame equivalent Optical. Further it uses a contrast detect autofocus. The newer Digic 6 processor does a super job of the tremendous number crunching involved in doing a contrast detect autofocus and focus speed is quite acceptable till about 1000mm. That is saying a lot as unlike a professional DSLR there is no focus limiting switch to aid it (Would love it if Canon included it), and each time the lens has to hunt for focus through its full range before locking on. Yet in all our shooting under realistic field conditions, we never had to wait for more than 10-15 (under poor light) seconds from going from Macro to Infinity focus (As we said decidedly slower than a DSLR, but acceptable when considering the focal length it hunts through without a limiting switch). However when compared with my Cam corder (having 10X zoom), in similar focal lengths, we found no differences in autofocus performance, and so it is quite usable for street and walkaround videos. Thanks for viewing and commenting.
